What is the best flea and tick treatment for dogs that doesn't need a vet prescription please? All opinions welcome! Thanks .

I would say Frontline (Bayer), it's a bit more expensive but it's effective and safe to apply.
In my opinion, think carefully before using Bob Martin product. There are some terrible accounts on the web of dogs suffering severe reactions to these treatments, although I have used themmyself in the long-distant past without any trouble. I would not choose to do so now.0 -

Is that the normal frontline or the combo? The combo is I believe prescription only. Just spoke to the vet and they don't stock it or recommend it but the one they did recommend was very very expensive!0 -
I apologise because the maker is Merial and not Bayer (I must be thinking of Advocate). It treats fleas and ticks only, I think, not Lungworm and other worms as well.0

I find frontline has absolutely no effect in our area, we use advantage and indorex.0

I use a scalibor collar for protection against ticks. These are available online from various suppliers without a prescription. I got mine this year from VET UK as they were the cheapest at the time.
The collar is recommended for fleas as well in America but in the UK it is only for ticks.
There are precautions - It is dangerous to cats and children should not allowed to play with the collar or sleep with the dog. It should be removed before the dogs goes swimming as it can be dangerous to fish.
I only treat for fleas when needed but I have used Advantage successfully. It is also available for online suppliers without a prescription.0 -
Thank you. Does Advantage work on ticks as well as fleas? Thanks.
No, Advantage is only for fleas. You need Advantix for ticks but it is prescription only.
You can get a prescription from your vet and buy from online chemists but it depends on what your vet charges whether is cheaper to do that.0 -
Which treatment did your vet recommend, if you don't mind me asking?0
