Your mate probably had a 4mo or R32 with a supercharger/turbo maybe as neither of these cars and very fast standard.

Not sure on the question your asking but if I had a pot of money to blow on making a slow car fast, then MR2 with a 2GR engine + supercharger would be a good starting point.

Your only question seems to be 'has anyone gone for a car with more 'oomph' and found it worthwhile?'
Yes, and yes...... the limiting factor for most people will be running costs: If you're doing a lot of miles, paying for your own fuel, tyres, etc, then the question is academic unless you DO actually win the lottery (at which point you'd probably stop having to do the mileage)!
A modern 2 litre turbodiesel will probably seem pretty gutsy compared to your Fiesta, but would seem pretty gutless compared to a Ferrari or motorbike, it's definitely a 'how long is a piece of string' question...
  • I regularly up and down-grade between 'slow/modest' and 'faster/fancy' cars, depending on what I fancy at the time.

Presently driving an E46 BMW 330Ci and an Audi A4 1.8T cabriolet. Both are faster than the Jeep Grand Cherokee/Renault Zoe I had before that and the Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost hire car I've had for the last couple of months (whilst the Zoe is in for repair... again).

Probably most extreme jump I've made was from a Citroen ZX diesel (NA, 70BHP) to an E39 BMW M5 (NA, 400BHP) and then to a Mitsubishi (lack of) Carisma (company car).

All of them feel slow compared to my BMW S100RR.

Have you considered the 2016 Dodge challenger?

If I won the lottery, the SRT Hellcat in red: 6.2 litre hemi, 707 horsepower 650ftlb torque, with the satin black bonnet (with functional airscoops) brass monkey forged wheels, 8 speed torqueflite & power sunroof is top of my list, only $73,173 .

I'd still rather have a 1960s one, but one of these would be quite nice
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I picked up my new mustang (5ltr) a few weeks ago, ordered 16 months earlier. It's an amazing vehicle but certainly not one I'd leave parked on the road. It's also huge so not the easiest to drive in a city or country lane. Mine is doing about 12mpg but its short runs at the moment.

Stunning car, gets a lot of attention and very powerful - if you aren't used to the power then you could get bitten very hard, especially when roads are wet.

In your position I'd be looking at something powerful but better mpg, maybe BMW 335, 135, 5 series etc. The newer BMW diesel engines are superb and very tuneable. Or if you want the v config experience the 350z/370z would be easier to live with day to day than a mustang. Go for the Hi rev (I think 09 onward) model though (350z), massive improvement.

    We've a 3.7 litre petrol 370Z, a Clio 2.0 petrol 197, and i've just today bought a 3.5 litre petrol Mercedes.

    Love them all.

If you do big miles though, 22mpg can get a bit tiresome!
  • I plan on keeping the Fiesta until it runs itself into the ground. Thanks for the reply Ozzuk. It's weird, a new Audi or BMW will be more expensive than the Mustang but because the Mustang is more unique, I'll threat leaving it on the road.

So, the point of this whole thread was what, exactly?

By the way, something can't be more unique or less unique than another thing. It's either unique, or it isn't - and unique means it's one of one. Not, as in the Mustang's case or that of any other mass-produced car, one of many.

A million pounds and you want to buy an Audi, BMW or mass produced Ford Mustang that won't come with a V8 unless you import a US spec one in LHD.

Do people no longer have aspirations?

How about a well specced F Type? A V8 XJL? An Aston Martin? Or similar? We haven't even touched on a Ferrari or Lambo!

My most extreme jump would either be from a 97P ex MOD diesel Astra to a brand new Subaru WRX then back to a Subaru Legacy 2.0 Auto.

Or from a 2.0CDi Carlton to a Rover 820 Vitesse Turbo then back to a Renault 21 GTS.

More recently I went from a V50 2.0D to a Jaguar XJL with the 3.0 twin turbo diesel V6 then back to a Berlingo 1.4i Forte and a Kia Picanto 1.0 City.

A cars just a box with wheels. Some times you have a nice one and sometimes you don't.

The new Mustang is right hand drive and is fitted with either a 5.0L V8 or 2.3L EcoBoost in the UK.
