I'd second the transporting option, my sister didn't like motorways and the anxiety about the drive affected the whole move process.

Probably cheaper to drive one of them to a station and leave it in the car park, then you take the train to pick it up, if you book the ticket in advance.

Or you could leave it outside your old house if there is a station nearby.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

If it's only motorways she won't use, why doesn't she just drive to Wales on the other roads we have available?

I just checked on a route from Canterbury to Colwyn Bay and it's only an extra 30 miles if you use main roads rather than motorways.

It takes 7 hours as opposed to 5 though. :(

Not used them, just googled for car delivery services.

Asking a friend to drive it there is probably going to be the cheapest method. Your wife may be able to add them to her insurance for 24hrs, and she or you can drop them back at the nearest station with a bottle off wine and their ticket home. Best to find a friend who has breakdown cover for any vehicle they drive, just in case.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Agreed, it seems strange to not even think about using alternative when there are plenty of routes without them. Unless the OP has another reason they can't do so?

There are loads of vehicle relocation services either driven or trailered it's how fleet cars are delivered. Ask a local garage if they can recommend one.

Where in the home counties, to where in Wales?

It's entirely likely that the motorway isn't even the best route, it certainly isn't the only route.

Or there's always... public transport. Drive one car. Get train back. Drive other car.

South Wales so M4 is the only realistic option

In any event, its not all about money saving , i cannot think that me driving a car for 6 hours one way, sorting out the removals etc , then getting a 7 hour, yes, 7 hours train ride back home, to then spend another 6 hours driving back again, is good for ones health

Plus, train is a ton upwards anyway so i cant be a million miles of that paying someone to transport it down
