Which makes the departure of Go Faster all the more regrettable. It struck me as the ideal pragmatic compromise for those who could offer a limited amount of planned load shifting, which I have yet to find elsewhere.
Go Faster may have been withdrawn but I think Go is still offered. 4 hours a day at (currently) 9.5p/kWh. Is there a reason why you rejected this option?

Yes there was (a reason). Probably something to do with the choice of times available. I'd have to consult my memory to check on the mechanics ..

  • Reason: Go is designed for high load shift EV drivers. I don't qualify.

Go Faster had the same requirement, so you might never have qualified for that either!

This might have been in the small print at one stage .. But the fact was that GF encouraged a limited amount of load shift, to 8.30 pm + for example, which I don''t find anywhere else. What you might call shooting themselves in the foot.

How did it encourage load-shifting in any way that Octopus Go doesn't?

I was able to opt for the 8.30 pm + 5 hours time slot. I don't think standard Go allows this?

No, but I don't see how that affects load-shifting. You still have a cheap slot that you could load-shift into, assuming that you meet the other requirements of Go.

September 2021 Octopus added what was regarded as an "honesty clause"

Prior to end May 2022 Octopus had scrapped Go Faster starting at 2030 hours. earliest start time being 2130 hours.

You seem to be telling the forum that during August 2022 you managed to get a further 12 months Go Faster starting 2030 hours.

Sam is probably in the same boat as me, but with a different normal usage profile. I opted for the 03:30+3H option. It worked for me as I have electric heating and an electric shower that are normally pulling a high load during that time window. When I signed up, the survey asked about such appliances, and even though the T&Cs suggested it was an EV tariff, customer services agents were recommending it for other forms of high usage and I informed Octopus through the survey that I did not have an EV. Over the next couple of years, my circumstances did not change and I continued to be offered renewals, first the same Go Faster tariff, then this year vanilla Go. I was not interested in the latter, because my usage in that timeslot was non-existent and I did not have an interest in becoming nocturnal.
