If the daily tracker rates stay this low then it will be worth switching off the variable cap for the next 6 months. With reduced Gas demand and solar / wind generating larger proportions of the UKs electricity we may see a few months of below cap rates on the tracker and with the cheaper SC could save a household quite a bit that can be used towards next winters bills.
Early days yet and we are on a bank holiday weekend, but on the plus weather should be getting nicer from here on in and longer / lighter days.1 -
Exactly what I’m hoping. At least I’m ahead after 3 days on Gas tracker. So far the p/kWh have beensavers_united said:If the daily tracker rates stay this low then it will be worth switching off the variable cap for the next 6 months. Gas tracker prices seem to be the same each day of a weekend, even a BH one. So you can expect 4.4 tomorrow and Monday too.I don't know a reason for this but it's been the case in all the historical data I've checked.N. Hampshire, he/him. In related news, Agile is back working more-or-less as it should (at least for this weekend):
There's some very cheap electricity tomorrow (Sunday) during daylight hours, before the 4pm peak period.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. My only concern with the tracker is how volatile the market is right now given everything that's going on, so whilst one day might have a low of 4p, the next week might max out at 11p each day. If I recall when we were on it last I felt quite anxious and was religiously checking the prices daily.
I'd love for our Go Faster tariff to roll over without any hitches, but the pessimist in me doesn't think it will. It's changed the way we use our energy massively, and with the EV scheme at work and my combustion engined car coming to the end of its life a smart energy tariff would be perfect for me. Although I'll probably try and charge it mainly at work or Tesco which is only 2 minutes walk from the office.Pennies holding up the Pounds.1 -

This might not be true for everyone. The reduced standing charge helps too.Last June, for example, I used less than 250kWh of gas. If I was paying 11p/kWh for that whole month, plus the Tracker SC, that would still only have been a £32 gas bill.N. Hampshire, he/him. I’d love to know if anyone lucky(wise) enough to have been on Gas Tracker v1 before it was withdrawn is still on it or have they been moved to v2 and the higher cap.0
