Just done a Rightmove check to check out latest position.

Swings and roundabouts time - the sort of place I would be checking out (all else being equal) is around £400,000 at the moment (and renovation costs). What I had was put on the market at £175,000 3 years back.

"What I had" type houses (ie 2 up 2 down Victorian terrace starters) are now on for around £170,000 (3 years later in a "price is shooting up" area:cool:). I got that one right then - ie that houses like that were going to go down basically - even in that fast-moving part of the country (which I suspect is down to just how many of them are in process of swopping to BTL:mad:).

What I want are still owner-occupied by the look of it and have duly shot up in price. Hence the £400k for 2/3 bedroomed in need of modernisation ones.

Oh well....that all went exactly as I thought it would....

Just a bit of a "leap" then - ie £170k to £400k and modernisation costs.

Statement of the "blindingly obvious" time as to why I expect houses to be modernised (and accept them being bog-standard pretty much the same in the process:cool:) and with gardens being proper "gardens" (not blimmin' concrete gardens). Yep...duly confirmed that gardens are either "gardens", fashionable little "patio gardens" or neglected little back yards:cool:. But they are NOT concrete gardens....time for another go at getting out there working on mine then today...:(. It's now well on its way to being a "garden"...

Just goes to prove the point that many of us like what we are familiar with - and will adapt anything else to be that way LOL.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    edited 18 May 2016 at 9:19AM
Over the past twenty five years I have bought well over budget, got divorced, got into lots of debt, lost a house, and I am now debt free, married to my soul mate, with a happy teen daughter about to go to uni. I'm renting and saving and looking at moving areas next year and then buying somewhere with as small a mortgage as possible. My dream home is:

    Somewhere I can feel secure
Somewhere I dont have to worry about money
Somewhere I can still be close to the friends I have made during my difficult times
    Somewhere quiet

I really couldn't bring myself to pay the prices currently bring asked for personally - a 'house' isn't as important to me any more. I'm going to bide my time and wait for things to settle.

I remember interest rates going to 15% and it scares the life out of me!
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door

I was looking at RM yesterday and the houses I want are about £150,000 above the price of mine, unfortunately!

The houses I'd really like to move to are approximately £50,000 more than my budget. I can dream!
