Le creuset stainless steel pans

Just bought this set of saucepans all lovely new and shiny. Followed care and use instructions to the letter, after first use, the inside of the pan looks a bit blotchy and discoloured, is this normal? never had stainless steel before

They won't be absolutely perfect but you should be able to get any burnt on stuff of quite easily so the pan is clean. Mine aren't Le Creuset they are Prestige. They are older than my little boy who will be 7 next week and they are still fabulous :D worth every penny. I'd expect yours to last just as well as mine (if not better if it weren't for the fact that mine have lasted so long!)

    Thank you doozergirl

There was nothing burnt in the pan, I just cooked a few brussel sprouts, but after washing the pan, the inside didn't look nice and shiny anymore, looks like a bit of discolouration and water marks. What do the inside of yours look like after use?

This is my first new set of pans in 36 years, that is why I treated myself to these, they were on offer mind 30%off :D

  • You need to polish it with Astonish

Did you use metal utensils? Any acid e.g. tomatoes, vinegar, lemon juice?

All of these will temporarily tarnish SS, but Astonish will return it to new.

I don't really want to be using astonish on a brand new pan used only once!

I only cooked some sprouts in it, no metal tools. I followed the care instructions to the letter. Actually there seems to be alot of restrictions with the use of these pans. You can't have the heat too high, you can't steep them straight away after use, you have to let them cool first. I wanted stainless steel because I thought they would be robust, but I feel like I am walking on egg shells with these. I feel like returning the two pans I haven't used, I bought them all seperately rather than a set.

    Shall I go and look?!

EDIT: I've looked. My little ones are still shiny, they have slight limescaley tide marks from the last use and some splash marks but theses must disappear with each 'cooking' to be replaced with new ones. When I cook pasta, perhaps a different coloured but still shiny mark is left of the shape of some pieces but it goes with the next use.

The big ones have more marks because I do proper cooknig in them. They are still shiny but around the bottom edges of the pan, they have tarnished and are beaten and there are a few black marks where the Doozer has obviously burnt something, LOL. If I took to them witha scourer, they would go.

I remember answering a similar question and giving comment ont he condition of my Jamie Oliver Tefal pans too. These things come with humungous guarantees - I would wait for a few uses and see how they start weathering. Mine don't look brand new but they look bloody good.

Big fan of expensive pans. And Debenhams sales. And Wedding Lists!

Thank you for going to so much trouble:T Looking at the booklet that came with the pans, I feel that I am walking on egg shells with them, you can't put them on a high heat and if you do the pan might go a bluey browny colour:eek: , you can't steep them to get the food off while they are still hot, yet they are a heavy and a good looking pan. They have an aluminium core not just at the base but right around the whole pan. I suppose the inside will discolour somewhat and you have put my mind at rest with the info you gave me about yours. I am tempted to take the unused two back, they were bought separately, not as a set. My friend has prestige, i wish I had got those now.

You have jamie Oliver pans too? are they non stick ones?

The bluey brown is the sort of effect like when you see petrol spilt on a forecourt. I really don't think the damage is lasting and it's only superficial - you can't expect the pan to look totally brand new.

I've used the usual Le Creuset pans as well, years ago, as my ex had them and they were magical, if VERY heavy for a little one like me! Although I'm obviously conscious about whether a pan is good and clean, I have never been that bothered by the exact appearnce. I think they will break in and level off. If you want to take back the unused ones to then maybe see how the other two and take them back under your guarantee or simply buy the smaller two again, then maybe do that.

I have a Jamie Oliver Wok thing and a Griddle Pan, yes non-stick - anodised or something? they are both fabulous pans to use. I am sorry I left it so long to buy a griddle pan!

I like cooking - all I get for Christmas is Cookware and recipe books! I'm happy enough, mind :)

if you get a stainless steel cookware cleaner it will clean them up as if new, most contain citric acid and are non toxic, but if you like sparkling pans they are very good. I have some stellar pans over 15 years old and use the stellar branded cleaner works a treat.
