Age of consent is 16 in this country, US varies between state, but can be 16. I'm not really sure who you are going to complain to, or what about

Does your daughter want to make a complaint?

You may want to check what the law is in the state where the man lives - US states vary with the age of consent being between 16 and 18, so if he is in a state where the age of consent is 18 then there may be more chance of local law enforcement being interested than if he lives in a state where it it 16.

Omg. How did you find out? What has your daughter said about the whole thing?

It's not clear whether he means this in a legal sense (disability, for instance) or in the sense that any father would see his daughter.

I have had friendships with much older men online that have been wholly innocent. OP needs to find someone their daughter is happy to confide in so the true extent of the issue can be established. This might be a teacher, a female relative or their GP. Social services may also be appropriate if the daughter is a vulnerable person.

I'd report it to the American authorities.

There might be younger girls involved over there.

    Protect them.

Do you know what state he lives in? As others have said here it may be the case that depending on where he lives he may have done nothing wrong, even if the relationship was sexual.

Fully understand that I don't have enough to convict but as a Dad, trying to protect his vulnerable daughter, I have no qualms about him getting a knock on the door from the authorities

"Vulnerable" is an interesting word in this context. Is your daughter incapable of making decisions for herself as an adult would be expected to?

Sounds like grooming. And the age of consent in most states. tends to be older than in Britain.

    Hi

I have just found out that my 18 year old daughter has been having a long distance online 'relationship' with a 62 year old man who is based in the USA. Apparently this has been going on since she was 16!!!
I'm absolutely livid that this creature has been able to do this for so long and whilst I know that my daughter is now 18, a lot of what has gone on before was under 18 - illegal (I think) in the US.

There must be some authority in the states who I can notify? I have his name, a company he has worked for and current/former address.

Can anyone advise me where the best point of call is start the process.

    Thanks

But she was 16 at the time? therefore of the age of consent.

His location is largely irrelevant unless she travelled to actually see him.

I'd concentrate on working with your daughter to explain the dangers, rather than a fruitless battle.
