OK - hands up - it's a fair cop, Guv.
The ADAC haven't put that on their website.
That's probably why I missed it.0 -
I bought it on 114krear ball joints.
I'd be happy to get 114k miles out of a set of ball joints!are x5 costly to maintain?
Just look at the size of the tyres, and look at the price of them, for starters.Had picanto for commuting and man it was cheap
If something goes wrong on a X5 it could cost the same as a Picanto! Compare a Picanto to a base spec Mini, not at £50k+ X5 or 5-er.0 -
I have winter tyres on my 535, the challenges I have are ground clearance, visibility, the roads are full of holes and have to bump up grass verges to allow other cars to pass.
I can't even get up my drive without scraping the tyre spats.....It also floods up here so a few extra inches in height might save me
I would like to hope that a 4 wheel drive would be better at all of the above the my current car (which I love)

Lots of BMW haters out there plus those who despise any perceived"luxury" car........
I have driven 4x4s for approx 30 years and have owned various Jap vehicles, a Range Rover, a Land Rover and a BMW X5. The X5 is the current vehicle and I have owned it since 2010. Also had a company Ford Kuga, which was the worst of all of them, by far, in terms of driveability and actually enjoying the drive. The X5 has been by far the best. The Range Rover and BMW can be eye-wateringly expensive to maintain while the Jap vehicles were less so, but then I owned them years ago. It's not rocket science is it - I am always amazed by those who eagerly seek ownership of an aging, expensive-when-new vehicle, then expect them to go forever on the smell of an oil rag and little to no maintenance.
Unfortunately, by the time they end up with the umpteenth keeper off some dubious forecourt with aftermarket warranties not worth the paper they are printed on, they have been abused, "remapped", modified and generally not maintained as they should have been, and are going to cost hefty repair bills not long after purchase. Cars that cost up to £70k new are not going to cost Fiesta money to maintain, ever, least of all as the electronics and everything else ages........
I love my X5, bought 6 years ago, mostly main dealer maintained as it was on an extended BMW warranty. I would never have an X5 or indeed any other BMW unless I was able to keep the BMW warranty up,though. The warranty in my case has paid for itslef over and over with most repairs running into £1000s of pounds and there have been no gearbox or engine issues yet, touch wood! 130,000 miles and counting, I keep the smaller 18" wheels on much of the year with their winter tyres- cost is certainly not as ridiculous as the 20+ " tyres.
The ride quality in my opinion was superior to any of the other luxury marques I test drove -Audi, Porsche, Volvo, VW, Range Rover and Merc. The Range Rover build quality was the worst of the lot and the legendary awful service of Range Rover dealerships was dreadful, during my ownership of the Range Rover. The others were simply not as nice to drive as the BMW. It has been an amazing performer in poor weather conditions and also tows like a dream, carries passengers and dogs in comfort and covers massive distances with ease, and you don't feel knackered on arrival!
Make your own mind up and do a bit of research on the forums etc- don't just follow the BMW Bashing trend seen so frequently on this site. X5's are superbly engineered, capable machines. At 12 years old, mine still looks and performs like a much newer car. Be sensible though and don't buy on impulse.0 -

I had some pretty poor service from JLR dealers.
Though Jaguar Assist and Land Rover Assist always provided a comparable vehicle quickly. Including delivering a brand new Range Rover Vogue SE within 90 minutes on a Saturday Morning in South Kensington.
As usual some dealers are at best apathetic or worse downright dishonest.
But find a decent dealer and it's all good
I doubt BMW would have paid for £3000 of good will repairs on a car with well over 100k miles like Jaguar did, though I had to kick up a fuss.
A colleague had a 730ld which cost £90k and they ignored his creaking suspension for a year, then said it was because it car had done 80k miles, even though it had been reported since 40k miles.
I had a front suspension rebuild under warranty on my XJL with over 100k miles.0 -
Hmmm..
I thought they'd the cam chain problems sorted by 2011 model cars?I have heard of a PH driver with a late 2012 520d having his chain need doing as it was rattling like a good un.
so one car out of the hundreds of thousand N47 engined cars built since 2011 and bigjl tells the whole world not to buy one because you will need to change the timing chain
on the post 2011 cars there have been some reports of noisy chains but far less if any reports of them snapping, and just because bigjl doesn't like BMW he will take every opportunity to rubbish them in favour of jaguar0
