The garage blew my engine up.....

I took my Jaguar s-type for an MOT last year. Initially it failed on a few minor things including an ABS warning light showing. The garage had the car for a few weeks as they said they said it was a sensor....then got a call to say they took the car out, the top hose came off and they ran it without water and the engine blew up? To cut a long story short I told them to get it sorted.....SIX MONTHS later I got the car back and whilst it drove there was lots of problems with the electrics. The garage started chasing me for £900 (apparently this was for the MOT???) suffice to say I refused to pay and told them I was not happy with the car....I was told to bring it back and they would sort it out (no way...) Within a few weeks differant lights started flashing until the car went into limp home mode.... Took it to another garage and they advised that I take it to a Jaguar dealer....whilst talking to the dealership they brought up my MOT record on the computer and we discovered that in the few weeks prior to the engine blowing up my car had notched up 370 miles? Jaguar now have the car and have found loads of faults....my bill is currrently £1500 which doesnt include needing a new servo (£450) What to do......should I sue the garage......how much can I reclaim?

My MOT at the weekend cost me £30 so I think you've been had on that one...

    How much can you reclaim?

Well how much damage was caused by them? And of the damage they caused what was down to their negligence?

A servo for example, i'm struggling to understand how the MOT station are at fault.

So they were driving the car, the hose blew, and the engine was cooked. This is their fault? They somehow caused the hose to fail? Or it was merely unfortunate timing, and it would have gone anyway?

You can claim for as much as you think you are owed.
You'll have to prove it, of course, and your chances of actually winning the claim are small.

So it failed due to the ABS light and a few other minor things.... but surely they would of quoted how much the work was before they did it? Also what was the reason they had it for a "few weeks?" Assuming that was due to the ABS problem, that shouldn't take long to rectify?

    More info please!

370 miles is Exeter to Bridlington.
Hardly a test drive is it.

If the fault had happened when the op was driving I bet they wouldn't be blaming themselves .......it'd be the cars fault
