Grass too long, nobody taking responsibility

Hi All,

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with our council / housing developer. I think mostly the latter. We live in a house which has a grassed area out the front. Our drive and garage is at the back of the house. This grass hasn't been cut yet this year, so I phoned the council who informed me that they haven't purchased the land back from the housing developer yet, so it is still their responsibility. I have tried to contact them (Persimmon) many times but they are not answering the phone or returning the messages I leave. It really is getting a mess now, not only the grass but of course the weeds, some of them nearly 5 feet tall!

As Persimmon aren't doing anything about it, who can I complain to? There's also a street light that hasn't worked for month, which the council say isn't there's to maintain. I would mow it myself but it's too big an area for my little mower!

Any advice much appreciated

If the Council told you they've not taken the site from the developer then it's the developer's responsibility to do. Do you pay any service charges?

They must answer A phone of some sort.... how're people contacting them to buy a house there? Phone that number, or Head Office, or any numbers you can find.

so apart from ranting on here what do you expect to achieve given you refuse to do it yourself yet it troubles you so much

in the olden days there was such a thing as community pride where people would not look to others to solve their own problems

the council don't cut the grass on the turning circle at the bottom of our road, we do it ourselves between the 6 houses on that circle

TBH, I wouldn't waste the breath on offering. I'd just do it.

BTW, Alter ego, a goat won't be any use for keeping grass trimmed. You want a sheep.

This is the developer's land and you should be paying a factor/management fee to cover the cost. Are there any show homes on site? Maybe stop in if you can and let the salesperson know about the issue, stressing how untidy it looks and anyone driving around thinking of buying a home there would be put off.

Alternatively, refuse to pay the factor fee until it's sorted.

Just another reason I won't buy a new house!

I'm with Adrian on this, if you have grass of your own and the means to cut it then the simplest answer is to cut it yourself.

A herd of rabbits would probably do the trick too, in fact if you start with one of each sex you'll soon have enough to keep the whole estate trimmed.

Surely it wouldn't be too much hardship to mow it yourself?
It wouldn't have to be done all in one go if its a large area, or use a strimmer! Other neighburs may come and help if they see you struggling.
I have a grass verge outside the front of my house which the council are responsible for, I mow it and trim the edges outside my house and my elderly next door neighbours.
