Hi, just had a closer look. You can cancel within 30 days but only 14 days to move provider.

I presume that's 14 days for the new ISP to contact BT, don't think its possible to switch in 14 days ?

I'm not entirely sure how the switch works with the 14 days either.

I used the webchat (as i'm overseas currently) to quote the ofcom rules and ask that my contract is terminated without penalty. No problem.

I then asked if i now switch to a new provider, would i need to do anything, or if it would be managed by the new provider? They said, no problem, the new provider will sort it all out.

So i hit the button on SSE to get my order rolling, switching with the same line number. SSE estimates that this will take 3 weeks.

But then i was told that within 30 days i will need to contact BT again to "cancel my service". Huh? Isn't that the whole point of the switching process? My old service should terminate as soon as SSE take over the line?

I said i don't know when the switching date will be and was told i should contact them again when i do know the date.

    BT says.

14-day notice period: Applies to customers switching providers using the standard industry switching process.

I'm confused. I called up today to cancel and was told I have 30 days to move provider (they even gave me the date of the 13th of June) to not be charged. Why am I given more time than everyone else?

It says 30 days to cancel contract .
Its does not say switching .

    From the email .
You'll see the new prices on your first bill after 3 July 2016. If you want to change something or even leave, you'll need to give us 30 days' notice (or 14 days if you're switching provider), starting from the date we get your request. We won't charge you any increased prices during that time. And if you're within your minimum term and want to cancel, you'll need to give us a call within 30 days of getting this email to avoid paying a charge for leaving early.

EMail also may have an offer for you .

In my case its cheaper broadband than my current discounted price .
Line rental will rise but as my advanced line rental expires just after the increase i have the opportunity to renew at today's price . Thats providing i renew within the timescale of before the 3rd July and after 27 days before existing expires .That leaves basic TV package to renew at £zero pm and of course paying the higher call charges .

Switched away from BT after price rise email. I got an automatic email saying I would have to pay a big early leaving fee, so I had to call them to have that nulled.

By the sounds of it they have to actually be informed by you that you're leaving due to the price rise, then they push the button to null any early fees- so be sure to call them after starting the switch.

My 12 month BT contract for phone and BB is up soon and I'm cancelling as I have Virgin Media phone and broadband. Even though my 12 months is paid in full BT are going to charge a £31 "disconnection" fee for the broadband. I'm livid. At the end of a contract it shouldn't cost me anything. This is just BT giving me the finger.

Nope, it's Openreach having to do some work to disconnect your connection. If you were transferring to another broadband provider, the termination charge would be absorbed by the new ISP.
