BT termination charge

I have left BT before my contract has ended as I heard Martin Lewis say on TV it was in my rights to do so as they have raised their prices and that is a breach of my contract with them plus I had free BT sports and then they decided to charge me for that another breach of my contract so I cancelled it but now they are saying they are going to charge me £40.25 for leaving before my contract runs out are they able to do that as they broke the contract first and that led to me leaving or do I have to pay the fee ??

Have you had your letter re: price rises yet? As far as I know you have to wait for notification of the rises before you can get out. From then you have 30 days to notify BT.0
-
That might be the standard Openreach termination charge if service is not transferred but simply terminated.0

Hi,
I dont have a letter but I do have an email notifying me.
Should I ring BT to cancel or just start the switching process.
Plusnet seems a good price for unlimited 80mb fibre.
Thanks0 -
Ring BT to cancel if the letter says you may cancel within 30 days .An ISP switch may not trigger your right to cancel .0

Hi, just had a closer look. You can cancel within 30 days but only 14 days to move provider.0

They say in the email to ring them first if you want to get out of your contract without termination charges.
I did this and am moving to Sky without any penalty.0 -
Should I expect a break in the service during the switch? Thanks0

There may be a very small loss of service, a minute or two max, this should only be when you swap your router to your new providers router, or make the change of the username in a third party router to connect to your new ISP.
For the telephone connection, it all depends if you're moving to an LLU provider. If so, there will be a few minutes loss of service while you're disconnected from the BT kit in the exchange and connected to the LLU providers equipment.0 -
I phoned BT to ask about leaving and they offered £5 off the broadband so infinity 2 for £26.50.
I looked about a bit more seen infinity 1 unlimited for £12.50 for new customers. I phoned up and couldn't get it that cheap but got it for £14. I'm pretty happy with that.
Add to that my mobile is with BT so currently saving £5 already as I have broadband with them so didn't lose that too.0 -
Sky will do their fibre for £10 plus they will pick up your £40 termination charge too if you ask them nicely.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
