    Did you happen to tell them that replacing the battery fixed the issue? Only for them to find out that it didn't?

    And there is every likelihood that, in those two cases, the old battery was !!!!ed.

    I would not argue with that but in both cases,completely out the the blue, the engine would not start. The first thing I thought of was anything else but a !!!!ed battery. Perhaps mistakenly I thought you would be able to tell when a battery was about to go.

    The famous thread where they failed to provide a case number so I could get a copy of the transcript notes and judgement, that one, something of the darkside about it.

    Providing that the OP didn't 'miss-describe' the car and/or he is not a car trader pretending to be a private seller then there should be no come back.

    No, many batteries which give up, do so suddenly and without warning. Particularly on the first cold morning in the winter.

    The poster had a 1000+ post count, though, so unlikely to be a troll in the darkmatter vein.
