In future, when selling a car, use this car buyer's contract from the AA. It includes all the salient points of a private deal.

This is exactly the kind of thread that confirms my belief to take less but have zero comebacks by using WBAC or WWAC.

There are so many shows on TV telling people what their consumer rights are that people really think they can buy a car, use it for a few weeks and then get their money back in a Private Sale.

Sometimes they donut to get a car to use whilst their own car is being repaired and they didn't want the expence of a Hire Car.

So what shall I do now? I said no to him and he was OK with it.

I obviously feel bad that he is having problems but I sold the car in drivable condition.

Ask him at which point in time he would consider you not responsible to fix his car for him or offer him a money back guarantee ?

    Very valid question.

He was ok? All sorted then.

Don't feel bad, an old car will have problems, the timing can be unfortunate. And you don't know if he's done anything to it/with it since he's had it. If you sold in in a drivable condition then your conscience is clear.

Do nothing. Enter in to no further correspondence with him.

Why? As long as OP was open and honest about this (and included the receipt for the battery) then there's still no comeback.
