Basically their cost per person per meal will have increased, however little that might seem, for those over on the O/S board feeding one person on £5 a week it can be a massive difference.
Xxx
I suppose it is because, assuming OP is on the breadline as you suggest, they MUST BE spending 45p on their loaves (https://www.aldi.co.uk/groceries/all-groceries/bakery/bread/c/bread).
One must be mindful that:
- You can get 45p from passing strangers if you ask enough of them! It isn't hard to get the money together!
- It will be a relatively rare occurrence that someone does not have a freezer to freeze any spare pieces of bread, thus reducing waste and cost per slice.
- There exists a simple solution whereby you EAT LESS BREAD DURING THE MEALS.
- I suppose another solution is to go the food bank (if you don't already) and maybe cut down on your weekly food budget.
The old phrase "beggars can't be choosers" springs to mind here, and I think OP sums up the fact that they aren't a beggar when they say: "I'll be going back to Lidl, next time.." (not to mention their previous post history).0 -

Agreed. If someone is so poor that few fewer slices of bread make such a difference then they really need to take a long hard look at their life choices. Even the 45p quoted worked out daily is only £13.50 per month. Most people easily make that in an hour, it's buttons.0 -

Id love to be earning that an hour :eek:0 -
OP have you tried making your own bread? I get 3 loaves and the cost works out at £1. I only bake it when I already have the oven on to reduce costs, it tastes much nicer. If you want the recipe just send me a message. I don't use the bread maker I do it by hand.
There are lot's of sneaky price rises going on atm. Tesco recently removed there sea food sticks from the shelves. 16 for £1. Then 3 weeks later they were back at 8 for 80p!
It all starts to add up. I re-costed a weeks food bill I had from 3 years ago and it was 24% higher. My wages sure haven't risen that fast in that time.
You should join us on the OS board. It is a lovely bunch of people trying to eat and live well for less so that we can save the surplus for our pensions, savings or just to enjoy the odd treat day out here and there£36/£240

Your suggesting the OP should beg rather than just budget her bills? I know which one would make me feel good about myself and which one would make me feel worthless.
No. I'm suggesting that, if you cannot budget an extra 45p to buy another loaf of bread to meet your bread slices shortfall, there are alternative options like begging and freezing unused slices for future use.0 -

I don't know how you've managed that. Myself and the rest of the UK it seems are paying less http://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/may/07/surprising-fall-cost-food-uk-eggs-bread-meat0 -
Years ago, before I retired.. I used to buy a loaf of bread in Asda along with a pile of sliced meat. I would make up a pile of sandwiches and put then in the freezer. In fact it was quite annoying to find that there were an odd number of slices in the loaf. I did write to the bread manufacturer concerned about this. But never got a reply.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
