Aldi bread hike..

The basic wholemeal loaf has a new wrapper, and is still 800g, but the slices are bigger, and much thicker ('doorsteps'), so there's only 18 rather than the typical 22-24.
A sneaky way of an effective price hike..(not for the first time)
I'll be going back to Lidl, next time..

Surely that's exactly the same weight in ingredients, you omitted to mention anything about the price hike so can only guess your complaining there are less slices per loaf.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Not really a price hike I think as bread isn't sold as price/slice. It is still 800 g. It is just thick cut now rather than medium or thin.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250

Hi,
well as the slices are bigger, just cut them in half then you'll have 36, for the same price as 22/24, a bargain.0 -
...and they say the standard of education in this country is slipping.
Since when does the same price for the same size equal a price hike? Wow.0 -
I bought a loaf of bread the other day for 1.29. Turns out it was unsliced. What a ripoff - one slice of bread for 1.29!!!0

Are there people who actually count the number of slices in a loaf of bread?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

*checks loaf in cupboard. Notes that it is Warburtons medium with 20 slices. Checks length of full loaf (ie the depth of each slice) and it is about 10.2cm (lets call it 10.5cm but, especially with packaging and gaps between slices, it won't be longer than that)*
Is your ruler from Aldi? (joke)
A typical 800g loaf is 25-35cm long.
I do think it's a slight problem that so much of Aldi/Lidl bread is thick-sliced, with a consequent increase in calories per slice.
I cannot fault the VFM of the "posh" wrapped loaves in both A & L at 85p on a long-term price reduction. Similar loaves are c. £1.30 in the major supermarkets.0 -
