Well what a wonderful response thank you all, as for my age sweet 62. I am rather fussy about the stains on the tea towels as my late wife would testify, in fact thats why she is my late wife!!!!! I thought 15 years in prison was rather harsh, because I did warn her about the state of our tea towels

I or rather the kids put our dishcloths in the dishwasher or in a bowl with a little bleach and washing up liquid in the water ,they get changed each day and they put them to dry overnight over the hot water pipes in our bolier cupboard,no smell then once a week they are all bunged in the washing machine with teatowels which we seem to use about 30 a week:eek:and put onto a hot wash and put on line to dry .Don't have a problem with stains on either dish cloths or teatowels

A bloke who cares about his tea towels. I am seriously impressed. Sorry I am already married to a lovely fella so cant help on the marriage front but I am sure someone will snap you up, domesticated ones are hard to find!

Grubby tea towels are a great excuse to de-gung the washing machine. Stick the machine on and just put a good splodge of bleach in the drawer instead of powder. You need to run on a hot wash and I always do some whites or bedding afterwards just in case there is any bleach left.

Leaves the washing machine nice and clean and sorts out the tea towels.
success I used the bleach method soaked them in bleach first then added bleach to the wash and bingo really good looking tea towels once again thank you

  • This thread isn't really the same as the question I need to ask but it's about tea towels and cleaning them :p

I've taken a teatowel out of the drawer, all cleaned and pressed (slighty lol) but it smelt a sickly off milk smell. I went through the drawer and found a further two teatowels smelling like this. Is there anything I can do to prevent them going in the bin? What have I done to cause this foul smell?

    ANy help would be fab

Tea towels go in the washer, I put them on the handle of the cooker door to dry overnight and then toss it in the laundry hamper each morning and get a new one out.

I never thought of putting dishcloths in the dishwasher, so thanks for that tip, I usually soak them in bleach overnight.

If you want to sterilize a dishcloth, just pop it damp into the microwave for 20 seconds, steams up the microwave ready for a wipeover too.
