its usually a deposit of a months rent, plus a months rent in advance ( some will only take people on benefit if 3/6 months paid in advance) then there will be the admin costs ( reference costs) which is usually about £200

And don't forget you might have to buy furniture, or pay more rent for a furnished place.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

    thanks!!!

    very helpful.

i don't own much property etc, so i think it would work out cheaper (considering costs hauling it elsewhere), to gradually save up and replace, pickup things from freecycle etc.

just sleep on mattress on floor etc, many workarounds, hopefully.

    thanks guys!

will have a bash at privately renting, hopefully...

please can someone help me if i am stuck with my local housing authority ? (i have no "local connections" elsewhere ?)

, also can i apply to say scotland etc ? (lived in england all life)

and finally > "howlong is a piece of string" > can anybody give me an indication of how long it usually takes to be offered houses ? > should i be applying right away ?

i don't need very much at all, 1 bedroom, shower etc, but would like private access, safety, and as non-populated area as possible >

Yes, its possible to get an immediate social housing tenancy in quiet areas of Scotland (you will need to check the allocation policies or speak to the landlords directly to understand if you need a local connection).

Here is a sample though you would need to perform extensive research on the internet to identify Housing Associations in your preferred areas that offer properties on an immediate let basis or general needs housing waiting list to those without a local connection.

This provider offers furnished/part furnished properties with immediate let

    See 'immediate let' search facilities

Consider Link2Let (mid market rents offered by social housing landlords, check if your LHA covers the cost).

If you don't mind urban areas, you will increase your chances as long as you appreciate that these are usually in unpopular and sometimes deprived communities. For example, its relatively easy to pick up a social housing tenancy on an immediate let basis in the less popular areas and types of housing in Liverpool and Manchester, for example, on a first come, first served basis.

    Referencing fee £65 per person
    Guarantor fee £65 (if required)
    Shorthold Tenancy Agreement fee £180
    Renewal fee £90
    Inventory fee £60

From my local estate agent, just to give you an idea. Obviously this will vary according to area.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
