local housing authority / social housing questions ?

hello,
i live with my mother, who is selling her house and i am getting "the boot" although it may take a year or so, guessing.
i currently, ill on ESA and have no money... and need to find somewhere to live for when that happens.
please can someone help me if i am stuck with my local housing authority ? (i have no "local connections" elsewhere ?)
or if not, can i apply to any ? and can i apply to several at one time ? if i let them all know the goings on ?, also can i apply to say scotland etc ? (lived in england all life)
also please, would i be classed as at "risk of being homeless", even though i have [however long it takes to sell the house (needs clearing etc first > going to take ageeeeeeeeeeeees)).
and finally > "howlong is a piece of string" > can anybody give me an indication of how long it usually takes to be offered houses ? > should i be applying right away ?
i don't need very much at all, 1 bedroom, shower etc, but would like private access, safety, and as non-populated area as possible > is that possible ? or is that asking too much ? probably ?
thankyou VERY much for any help.
regards

Hi, my thoughts are if you are single you may have trouble getting a place, plus one bed homes are in short supply due too " bed room tax ", people needing too down size.
As for how long people can wait years in some cases, pretty sure you wont be helped until you are homeless.
Private landlord may be the way to go. Please check all iv said as its only my opinon and laws etc have/had changed since i was in your position0 -
thankyou for the reply,
i had not really considered renting privately as i read council homes offered much more security of tenancy etc, but will look more into it.
suppose it is entirely dependant on landlord (?)
can anybody help, if i am allowed to move to an alternate british country and still claim benefits from england ?
also any additional advice, regarding first post and especially if i can apply to several councils at the same time to attempt to get a social home without waiting for a indefinate amount of time ? (i have noting personally keeping me withing my LHA / would not mind moving (don't have a vast geographical knowlege of other places to live either...)
all help, very much appreciated.
thanks0 -
You usually need to have a local connection before you can go on a housing waiting list. So no, you can't just go on to any list. What you can do if you do get housed by your local council, is then do an exchange with someone from any other area. If you have a disability you are more likely to get council/housing association housing than just being a single person. Ask the council.0

thankyou, i will try contact CAB for the specific help or consider gaining "local connection" by way of renting or something....
don't really like my LHA much...
thanks for the replies.0 -
Where is mother going, can you not go with her.
Will she help with a cash sum for a deposit for private renting etc..make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
How old are you and do you have any provable disabilities that are preventing you from paying rent on a private let.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

hello, thanks for the replies,
i am 30y/o, currently esa wrag for about 2 years, although hoping to be put in support group (just sent off WC questionairre), i don't know if i am eligable for PIP, not registered disabled.
mother retired, wants to find somewhere nice downsizing for retirement, won't be taking me with her, as wants nice garden etc.... although would let me stay temporarily if she had space, but will not be a criteria within her search for a new home.
(30 years is enough.... don't blame her).
basically, i have been "potatoing" (due to ill health) on esa for the last two years, having worked previously ages 18-28 or something, same job, part time work.
...and now need to plan so as to not be homeless.
but i don't really like the area which i live (grass is always greener ?), and don't fancy my chances much, being placed inner city etc, bar the convinience of supermarkets...
not well traveled ...or socialised, so i figured, if i have to move > i may as well attempt to move somewhere nice (nothing keeping me in LHA, personally etc).
had a nice holiday in south west scotland a few years back!, lovely area, hence asking about other countries.
i think if mother had ALOT of money left over, she would contibute the differential from housing benefit > rent for the first year or something, but the house we live in is not massively valuable, so cannot bank on it etc.
....and that's pretty much my life story.
thanks!0 -
First I would put your name down with your local housing office as potentially homeless, you will need your mother to write an eviction letter for you stating that when she moves you will be made homeless. Do this as soon as possible.
Depending on what you're disabilities are will depend on what criteria your local housing office deems you in, this depending on vulnerabilities. They will provide you a housing band, The key is your vulnerabilities because without them the council have no obligation to house you being 30 years old with no dependents, if they did you're only entitled to housing benefit single room rate in a shared house.
Have you applied for PIP?0 -
I think you also need to be more realistic about your housing choices. Even if there are disabilities, then there is no way that you are going to find a nice country property - private or social. Where such things exist, in the social sector they are highly sought after, and in the private sector they cost a lot! The only way to get the housing choices that you want is to get back to work - and even then, those sorts of choices usually come with a decent income. Whether that is an option or not is something you can decide. But otherwise, as you have been told by others, your choices will be very limited indeed.0

Your disability would qualify you for housing group A1/c as a vulnerable person, chasing up PIP is a good idea as this will help your case.
First thing is to make an application to the local council for housing.
Once you have this you can also apply to housing associations who have a better attitude towards people with disabilities than local councils and will offer priority housing without calling you a liar.
I am quite sure you will be able to secure some social housing using the priority schemeI do Contracts, all day every day.0
