I was really using that 'play on words' called 'upgrade', which used to mean an improvement, but *sometimes* in computer speak, it no longer does ...0 -
We're well past peak FUD about Windows 10, I suppose there's always going to be peeps who don't want to move with the times.

Reading between the lines I guess you're going to say the new functionality isn't necessarily an improvement? Cortana appears to have the biggest additions. Personally, I've not bought into these assistants/organisers as, like many new things, they appear to create more work than they save. But I don't mind having a play.0 -
Hi
Well I was trying out the bash shell on Sunday, and it works.
apt-get install joe
It is Ubuntu 14-04 and only a command line, so nothing there for the regular joe I suppose, Notepad et al work as well or better.
I wanted to be able handle hardware info and driver installs differently, even hopefully better than device manager.
The integration is amazingly good, presumably the Canonical influence.
I installed a gig or so of software but the X11 part had no symbolic link, this means it wont run a graphical screen. If it did, then NIRVANA is on the horizon.
Otherwise W10 is just Nah!This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
The Ubuntu BASH install is a life saver!
Sooo much easier to use SSH to log into remote servers quickly rather than messing around with PuTTY!!

If I download the Win 10 now will the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition come as a microsoft update later with normal updates?0 -
If I download Win 10 using your link :
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10
Is this the same free upgrade that I would get if I click on the icon on my system bar?
And
At what stage in the download does it say "do I want to create a copy for another computer"?
And
Why do I need to take a copy of my existing c drive?0 -
It can all get very confusing (well, to some older folks, like myself.
I prefer going down the "clean" install route. I downloaded the Win 10 install program from the MS site and then loaded it onto an 8Gb USB stick using a program called "Rufus". This enabled me to create a bootable USB drive. I then changed the boot sequence in the bios to enable the USB drive. The install went very smoothly indeed.
I must say I was a little surprised. This was the first time I had installed the 64 bit version and I was disappointed at first when Win 10 told me that my Asus motherboard installation CD was not compatible with the 64 bit version of Windows 10. Then (to my even greater surprise) I found that Win 10 had installed all of my drivers during the install and everything worked perfectly.
The Asus CD is now redundant.
For what it is worth. I have installed and re-installed Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit) and Windows 10 (32 bit and 64 bit) on the same computers several times and on each occasion the original Windows 7 license number has been accepted without any problems whatever.
I have also noted that some programs that previously were not compatible with an earlier version of Win 10 (like my old version of Nero and MS Office) now work on my new installation of Windows 10.
I am guessing those people who suggested waiting for a few months until the bugs had been sorted out were not wrong.0
