Discouraging hedgehogs?

I was in the vets a week back and someone was complaining that their frontline had stopped working, also if you search for the thread about cheap flea treatments a week back someone else is saying the same thing. Hedgehog fleas do not live on anything else other than hedgehogs so they are not giving your dog and cat fleas. I would speak to your vet about what they are using to treat your pets - if the flea treatment e was giving was working and they did get fleas from the hogs the flea treatment would kill the fleas so something is not right, your vet could not have been giving them a treatment that was working so I think you need to speak to them about that! if using Frontline then change as this seems to have topped working for a lot of pets and maybe you need to use Program instead.
The thing is, we pump all these chemicals into our pets (and it must go into the skin) it is no wonder the fleas are getting immune to it. If I took paracetamol every day for years I am sure that eventually it would stop being effective.0 -
Thanks for that everybody! Reassuring to know we're not likely to get a flea infestation! I will leave Mr Tiggywinkle in peace!
On the subject of fleas, I've just started giving my dog a garlic capsule once a day instead of yukky chemicals. It's supposed to work for horses and humans too.0 -
Speaking of Frontline...I have two small dogs, and I use to purchase their flea treatments from the Vets...£34 for 6 pipettes  (2-10 kilo weight).I found an online pet pharmacy that sells it for £20.30 with free p&p...bit of a difference...They also sell it for medium, large & Xtra large dogs ( a little more expensive obviously )If you don`t need a six pack, they do it in a 3 pack and they also do Frontline for cats...

So, not really a conclusive verdict of hedgehog flea bites then? There are a lot of biting insects out there. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Vet changed my dog to Advocate from Frontline - if that helps!0

I was told by a vet over 20 years ago that hedgehog fleas do not live on dogs. We live in the country and have loads of hedgehogs around, my harlie Dane thinks they are toys and is sooo proud when he brings them back to us, he never hurts them, just brings them back and places them on the ground in front of us!! However each time he finds one you can see the fleas running up his muzzle and over his head, so if the fleas cannot live on him why do they insist on leaving their life source to commit suicide on my dog?0

He has charged you what?? Even a 3 months upply of Frontline only costs around £20. What on earth has he been using that is charging £25 a month each pet. Sorry but that is wrong, I know vets are expensive but there is no way it can cost that much - so he has been charging you £150 for the treatment (£25 each) and another £25 for the spray? OMG - sorry but something is wrong there. I would seriously be having a word and changing vets!0
