Couldn't just read and run today. Jackie, you always spoke so lovingly about Davey that we all felt we knew him. What a lovely thing it was that he visited you recently. There is something beautiful about a good relationship with a beloved sibling. So much shared history and memories that no one else can fully understand. It's hard to know that there will always be a 'Davey' shaped hole in your life, but from what you say he had a happy and fulfilled life and a peaceful death. Isn't that what we would all want for our loved ones?
You have the love and warmth of your own wonderful family to wrap you up and comfort you now, and the love and understanding of all your virtual friends here.

    Bless you.

My beautiful morning did not live up to its expectations! Blustery wind and intermittent rain, though it's not so cold as earlier in the week.

I did some essential emailing and phoning and then went out to collect my custom-built hat / glove box with shoe rack underneath. This time it's just MDF with a real wood front as it's not going to be on show. I've been to the hardware shed and bought primer, some white paint and a little pot of burgundy red which is for the front wooden panel. It's been measured to fit in my wee space in the hall and the lid also acts as a seat for when putting on shoes. I'll do the painting either at the weekend or next week.

Went to the big mrT in Oban as I wanted new pjs. Some of mine are so old that they are, quite literally, falling apart.

LameWolf - the side of the family I know well are so small in number and mostly live in either Germany or Australia. On my mother's side her and I are the only ones here, apart from a nephew in Birmingham. On my father's side there's millions of them but we've never been in touch really. We grew up in different places (army) and my father was the second youngest of 15 children. The last time I saw any of them was at my father's funeral in 1997 when I got 'told off' by never before seen cousins because of the cardboard coffin my father had specifically requested. My last remaining uncle put them straight right away as he had spoken to my father about his wishes. Mind you, the coffin was horrible!

Time to put the paint away. I was hoping to get out and cut the grass today but it's not to be. In that case it'll have to be a cup of tea instead.

Jackie what a lovely tribute to your Davey. I loved reading it and really visualised your childhood with him. I actually think you should write a book. I for one would read it. I do hope that you are ok. Such a sad time for you at the moment. Hugs to you xx
I will be thinking of you and Davey, Jackie [/B] xxx

Thank you all for your kind comments He certainly was one of a kind. I spent last night at my DDs with her and my son-in-law and three of my DGS.The boys were fantastic little lads and kept giving me a cuddle bless them.DGS Ben phoned from Uni to say how sorry he was. We raised a glass to him with our dinner last night.

This morning I had a text from my nephew to say that the funeral will probably be next week in Poitiers as tomorrow is a bank holiday in France for Ascension Day. There will also be another memorial for him in Hither Green in London later, as it was Davey's wish that he be interred with our late Mum. I shall be going to France as soon as we have got the date sorted for a few days. Davey's youngest DD is in Cyprus at the moment on holiday with her family but will be flying over when she gets home as she lives in Cork. Bless her, its her birthday today as well.

I spent today keeping busy and did three washloads for DD as the weather was so sunny .Then I spring-cleaned her kitchen for her, and I shall be stying to dinner tonight as well as DD doesn't want me to be on my own. The boys think its great having Granny around and the youngest Mikey is almost attached to my shadow .

I nipped in to Sittingbourne and did a little bit of shopping for some bits for the boys and they enjoyed coming home from school to a few treats.

I had to speak to his ex-wife last night on the phone and she was quite shocked I think as she hadn't realised how ill he had been.

I don't think I would be much good at writing a book I'm far too ordinary a person really.

Everyone has been so kind though and its time when things are tough that you get to know who your friends are real and 'virtual'

so thanks everyone once again your support has been lovely

Your "ordinary" is anyone else's "very special"!

I am so sorry about your brother but glad for his sake it seemed to have been peaceful and dignified.
