Wow, it's a good job you have police connections.

Not being funny but if it was someone else they would have been completely stuffed. Seems a bit unfair that the police only listen to you because you have connections.

I guess if nothing happens you could take her to court and with all the documents and evidence you have she would have to pay you/replace it. Sounds like she flogged it if you ask me. Stupid bint!

To be fair once a complaint was lodged in writing the Police would have changed their mind.

Luckily I haven't had to have contact with the police over reporting theft *touches lots of wood* so I don't know how the process works but they didn't seem very helpful and it felt like a situation where most people would be put off taking it further.

Perhaps they are taking the odd/even house number investigation strategy a step further

I came off the phone thinking there was nothing I could do but then hubby said he'd been warned they would probably try to 'fob me off' claiming it was a civil case when it clearly isn't.

I don't honestly think I stand a chance of getting it back but this woman has been so cocky and rude when she's texted me that something snapped and I couldn't just let her get away with it!!!

Why should she get away with it. It's theft and she clearly has no morals. If she genuinely didn't know who to return it to then she should have kept it much longer before claiming it as her own.

Bauer Media, after trying to reason with the woman, have now said there is nothing they can do. She is still refusing to hand it over to me and South Yorkshire Police have been worse than useless. They initially said that, due to cutbacks, they couldn't justify sending a police officer round. When I persisted, they changed tack and said it was a civil matter.

So next time I take in a package for a neighbor I can keep it because the police can't be bothered to get involved. No wonder the country is in such a mess !

I don't think there will be a positive outcome to this, a lot of time has already been wasted - and no doubt aggro too - last time I moved house I resigned myself to maybe missing out on a prize or two after I left. NOT leaving a forwarding address was a more important factor at the time (don't ask!) and anything important had long since been diverted to my parents address.

In my experience the police are the last people to seek reliable legal advice from. You would stand more chance of help on a relevant internet forum.

I'm a bit confused as to why you involved your former landlord? What could they possibly do?

My take on it is that the prize is long gone or in use. I suspect the person who took it would think twice about it next time but probably thought as is common in rented property that the previous tenant would have no reason to ever return.

Move on is the short version of my thoughts here lol.

    What I would do.

Letter before action sent to the address. Giving them 14 days to make contact and arrange a suitable time for collection. Making it perfectly clear that should this not happen then a claim will be made against them in the small claims court.

Yes it will cost money to file the claim, but im stubborn and don't like the thought of people getting one over on me.

Send the letter by all means but there is no point following through as it would be a straight financial loss.

I doubt the recipient still has it tbh.

    Time to move on.
