I would just contact the police yourself. They sound like they are purposely being difficult and that in itself makes it suspicious. If it was genuine, they would just hand it over.

I agree COnfused. If I was in their position I would gladly let them come and collect it rather than having to go to the trouble of having to contact couriers to arrange collection. Typically, they haven't responded to my last text so, if I don't hear by Monday I think I'll give the police a ring. From the tone of the communication I have received from them, I'm not sure I would be happy just knocking on their door as I fear they might get nasty (and I'm only little!!).

I'd state this is my full and final text, Please give me a mutually agreeable time to collect my parcel or I will contact the police and make a theft report as the parcel company have proof it was delivered to your address.
Your landlord has also been made aware of the theft.

Make sure you tell the landlord that you are going to the police if no resolve within 48hrs.

ETA Thieving scumbags, we (as in compers) work frickin hard for every little thing we win, so how ruddy dare they steal your hard earned prize.

Yeah, as I found, confrontation with people that have already proved to be difficult and putting you on edge is not worth it. Having suffered with Neighbours from Hell (twice!), know only too well about that.... Lesson learnt... Both lots of neighbours were very lucky that we didn't get the police involved. The next lot wont be so lucky..

  • Hi I just wondered if you'd heard anymore about it? Good luck with it.
  • I agree with Toniq

At the end of the day whether a neighbour signed for it or not is irrelevant as they have acknowledged they have the parcel

I would either text as above or send a recorded letter stating the same

And then do report it and send a follow up txt confirming you have and have a crime number- you can literally email most police forces so takes 2 mins

Its the principal as much as anything, it seems obvious they have decided to just open and keep it themselves and it is simply not acceptable

Spoke to the lady at Bauer Media today. She spoke to the person on Friday and said they would send a courier to collect the prize but that it must be handed over in person and, in unopened, unused condition. The woman who has it then started backtracking and said she would arrange collection directly with me.
Funny that, because on SATURDAY she texted me to say I could not collect it, only the company could collect and that I had to arrange it but that they could only collect it on a Sunday.
Hubby works for the police (civilian staff) so he's taken advice today and has been told it's a straightforward case of theft and needs to be reported on the 101 service. It's not the way I wanted to go but looks like we have no other choice. I suspect the coffee machine is long gone but I may be wrong!

Bauer Media, after trying to reason with the woman, have now said there is nothing they can do. She is still refusing to hand it over to me and South Yorkshire Police have been worse than useless. They initially said that, due to cutbacks, they couldn't justify sending a police officer round. When I persisted, they changed tack and said it was a civil matter.

Update: Hubby (who works for a different police force) kicked up a fuss and they've now agreed to investigate.
