New laptop purchased - Asus X555L - running W8.1
Did a clean install of W10
Got everything I need up and running fine.
Noticed that if I turned off at night and unplugged charger, that the battery was flat next morning!
Disabled 'fast boot' (IIRC) to stop that happening.
Now, when I press restart, it just shuts down ... won't reboot till I press the power button.
There's plenty on google about restarting instead of shutting down, but not t'other way round.

You use the word 'press' in connection with a restart ... what are you pressing, the power button? If so you may need to go into power settings and find the section that deals with what happens (sleep, hibernate, or power off) when the button is pressed.... Sorry, when I *click* restart.0 -
Just had your initial problem (Dell Vostro laptop battery drained overnight) and so I have just disabled fast start. Will report progress. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

When I had a problem with a machine failing to restart I found plenty of similar reports. From the ones I read the one that lead to the problem being fixed was a suggestion to update the BIOS. It worked. I have no idea how or why or if it would help you (especially as mine was an HP desktop) but for the effort involved worth checking if there is an update on the manufacturers website.0

I 'flashed' the bios - on the asus site the latest version is 311, but I have 312
Maybe 'flash' is more up to date than just d/l'ing a version (?)
It then rebooted fine - I was dead chuffed :T
Then I tried to reboot again about an hour later (?) and it just turned off. :mad:0 -
For you I'm guessing it is just an annoyance.
For me it was more than that as with Win 10 now automatically updating and restarting the machine I'd have been stuffed on my 24x7 machine when away from home. I actually bought a WiWo remote socket so I could power down and up remotely with the CMOS settings set to power up the machine if power came on. So far I haven't needed it for that as the BIOS update worked for me. Pity it hasn't for you.0 -

Hmm, don't like annoyances!
Further digging reveals that my PC is actually a X555LD - just turned it over to look harder!
Went here
http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/X555LD/HelpDesk_download/
entered the CPU details (it's a LX-4xxxxxU)
selected OS = W10 (64)
Under BIOS Utilities, there is the same 'flash utility' that I've used yesterday (or was it the day before?)
Under BIOS, there is a version 402, rather strange as all the others are 300's counting down.
Will try the 402 and be right back ...... remembering to also D/L the 312 unless it doesn't work!!

Well, that went badly... very badly ....
Computer is stuck in a loop now, just boots into the bios and won't go on to Windows.
Tried the 312 version but it says 'too old' .....

Hmm, in the BIOS, I can no longer see an option to boot to DVD nor C drive
Will see if I can put it on a USB stick ...
EDIT - it will boot into my W10 DVD
Start up repair couldn't fix anything
Reboot took me back to the BIOS, but there is only one boot option in there and I don't know how to add the correct one to get it to boot into windows0
