Absolutely fine. They didn't fold flat but they were solid seats unlike the Zafira which reminded me of deck chairs and you had to fold middle ones to get back ones up. We kept the galaxy for around 4 years and it was great.0 -

The Galaxy from 56 plate onwards is superior in almost every way to the older design.
The lack of a spare wheel might put some people off but doesn't seem to be an issue for the thousands of Private Hire drivers using them.
And if you want an Auto you are not forced to use the fragile box used in the earlier Galaxy/Sharon/Alhambra.
Though the torque Convertor box was replaced by the Powershift dual clutch box in 2011 and they are more expensive to maintain, though you will get 10mpg more out of one going by the info from Private Hire drivers that have used both.
And comes the times to sell Galaxys are always popular and have fairly strong residuals. Though in fairness all 7seat MPVs are pretty good news in this respect.
My sister had an Alhambra (1.8T) on a Y plate for family duties, it was replaced by one of the first mk3 Galaxys (2.0tdci) on a 56 plate and that was replaced by another Galaxy (again 2.0 tdci) on a 12plate.0 -
Nice bit of trolling from you0

Just to clarify the zafira fire issue, while its not fair to judge either way the fact is that well over 300 have caught fire (which admittedly is a small proportion to those OTR), a portion of those have caught fire after the recall work and a portion have caught fire after only ever receiving vauxhall main dealer servicing and repairs. The recall job sheet vauxhall have instructed has changed several times and there seems to be a major issue around the resistor not breaking away as it is supposed to when it overheats, the wiring loom and the blower motor corroding due to water ingress from the scuttle panel. There is an independent investigation ongoing funded by zafira owners who raised 10k to do it as they believe there is more to the recall than 'improper repairs'
I've had 4 zafiras in the past. All have had issues, the lesser evil being the petrol version which was actually quite reliable despite drinking oil at a phenomenal rate (known issue with ecotec engine). The diesels had major expensive issues (funnily enough never had a dpf issue). The 1.9cdti returned me around 30mpg on a mixture of driving (mostly 60 roads)
I have a mazda 5 now (which has been mentioned). Mpg's are in the 40's. The seating arrangement is far more practical/adaptable if you have young children. Its been pretty reliable so far, no issues around dpf (just make sure you keep an eye on the oil level and have it changed regularly along with a forced regen first) Drives well. A couple of known issues (not major) but seems like i might have got lucky with this oneEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0 -

Respect on getting 30mpg out of a 1.9cdti Zafira, I never managed to crack 18mpg, usually closer to 16mpg.
What might be more interesting is that now LAS of Met Zafira has gone on fire to my knowledge.
Though in fairness the AirCon and fan was less than stellar on the LaS Zafiras due to the positioning of the MDT and SatNav. On 55 plates it wasn't that bad, but 56/57/08 plates had a custome made mount made which meant they removed the central vents completely.
In all of them the stereo was repositioned to where the glovebox used to be.
I don't know much about the Mazda but Mazdas do tend to reliable.0 -

I wasn't aware of that, but it is interesting, especially if there has been modification to that area. Every fire has started with smoke coming from the gloveboxEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right.
