Renault Grand Scenic V Vauxhall Zafira
Hi all,
Thanks for the help so far.
I hae discounted the Peugeot due to the Turbo problems.
What about these two...
Renault Grand Scenic V Vauxhall Zafira
I currently have a Scenic 54 plate which has had few electrical issues and a new clutch but the one I am looking at is 2011.
Ive heard patchy things about the Zafira as well though.
Any thoughts?
Thanks...

I would personally avoid both.0

Interesting...
Just checked the reliability index and it seems to state 99-05 cars are hugely more reliable then (36 reliable - lower the better) than the 05-onwards which has a score of 164....
The Grand Scenic 09 onwards has a score of 69 and an average repar cost of £555.0 -

I'm not a fan of the diesels fitted to either car.
You will buy a younger, lower miles petrol variant for your money.
I'd personally have a 1.8i petrol if i was buying a Zaffy.
With petrol Scenics, watch for dephaser pulley noise and problems. (google it or check it out on youtube).
Windows - makes sure they're all working on the Renault - its a common fault but a cheap fix (£30 for the part new on ebay and £30 to fit)0 -

What about something like this?

Would would petrol engines comfortably go to? I've always had diesels and a Scenic for the last 4-5 years.0 -

The 1.6 is slightly underpowered, particularly once you start loading it up with people, but its still a decent buy.
I think a diesel zaffy will do mid 40s on average where a petrol one will be mid 30s. You need to offset that though against the saving made by buying the petrol over a comparable diesel, OR against the fact that the petrol variant will be much younger / lower miles than the equivalently priced diesel car.
Also, you WILL have sporadic big bills with the diesel variant - DPF problems, dual mass flywheel problems, injector problems, etc.0 -

Thanks Paul..
Does the 1.6i mean it has injectors, would these go wrong on a petrol? How long will petrol engines run?
I suppose my other option is:
A grand scenic or a Mazda 5 - any thought of this?
Ive seen a Grand Scenic 1.5DCI with full service histroy from a Renault dealer in Western for 7850 with about 41k on the clock.0 -
