We have an ancient computer which had Vista and Rapport messed it up. Luckily we have a very helpful computer man who helps us out.0

Herein lies another problem: as XP is out of support, it's increasingly difficult to find any current AV or other apps for XP. For this reason alone, I think mum should be treated to an OS upgrade / a new PC/laptop.
Ah yes! That is a problem with XP. An old machine may not take too kindly to an OS upgrade, based on my limited experience. A new device would be useful, and I think rightly deserved0 -
Thanks everyone, we got back in the bank, she had missed a number out of her Id when she wrote it down! No idea why the reminder form won't work, but there was a very helpful patient lady on the helpline.
I'm going to look out for a newer computer, but we downgraded this one back to Xp as she doesn't cope well with change! In fact I'm thinking of sneaking an imac in and pretentd it's just a Pc. I use Macs not Pcs, as I'm a graphic designer!0 -

Online banking + all the security holes in XP that aren't being patched = bad idea0 -
Never had a problem using online banking with santander but your mum shouldn't be using xp. It's no longer supported by microsoft and from last month chrome no longer supports it.
If your mum only uses the computer for basic web browsing then a chromebook would be a good solution. Updates automatically and no antivirus is needed as it's not possible for it to get any viruses or malware.0 -

I agree wholeheartedly, XP (although I still use it myself) is one of the worst platforms to be on if you aren't on top of technology. It's like asking someone without a driving licence to drive an articulated lorry in a storm up the M6.
Mum should get moved onto a computing platform that hasn't fraudsters lurking around every corner.0 -
Wouldn't life be easier for her with a nice new Mac?0
