these are usually brand new and fully packaged from people who have had buyers remorse and returned them. They have 1 year warranty
"usually brand new" sounds like the typical Apple marketing reality distortion field BS at work. You'll almost certainly get a refurbished one i.e one thats been used and failed for up to the 18 months or when ever the model was released. Apple has swapped it out and then replaced the failed component(s) and sold it on as refurbished or in UK terms Secondhand for a crappy 15% ?? discount.

If you buy new you'll get a 2 year guarantee (3 if you buy from John Lewis) if you buy second-hand sorry "Refurbished" as mentioned its only 1 year.

Worth bearing in mind that Apple has been repeatedly fined for misleading consumers on its warranties in order to sell them extended warranties.

    You have been warned.

Thanks everyone. I have bought one from John Lewis with a free 3 year warranty.

I was tempted to get the new model so I could have a pink one, but went with the 2015 model.

I love my MacBook, bought last year from JL. And it looks great with its translucent green shell.

Nope - not Apple's claims, claims of people who have bought through the refurb store. Apple prepare you for unoriginal boxes, marks on things etc, but the general concensus seems to be that the refurb stuff most is good as new, or close.

My macbook pro's a refurb as I wanted one that takes disks.

But with OSX 10.11 my canon printer doesn't work and a driver won't be updated. I'll be a lot happier when planned obsolescence ever becomes obsolete. :)

Again clearly written by a clueless idiot. Have you actually bought a refurb? Because if you had you will see what you have written is crap. Please come back when you know what you're talking about. You get a standard 1 year warranty and this can be extended with AppleCare by another 2 years to make 3 in total.

Please think before you write. I bet you're the kind of fool that buys dell running Windows.....unfortunately some people are too thick to reason with.

Can I ask what printer? I just find it difficult to believe that anything that works with 10.6 onwards (which is Intel processor only) would have broken. And if it doesn't work, it's more likely Canon's fault BTW.

It's the printer company's duty to release drivers, and if they don't try to keep up with these new iterations of the OS, I'm the mug that needs to replace a perfectly good printer.

If Mac made it easy to switch back to an earlier system (like Windows does), or incorporate backwards-compatibility I'd have no problems with their upgrades.

The fact they don' t see it as necessary reinforces the feeling we're on a travelator taking us on an unnecessary journey to somewhere we don't need or want to go. I'd recommend again; start with the earliest version of the software and work yourself forward as and when you know it will give improvements and not switch off functionality. They've been doing it since Leopard OSX dropped classic and Lion dropped rosetta.

I've been using Macs for years alongside both Windows and Linux and I've not found a printer yet that doesn't work with the Mac, or any of the other operating systems for that matter.

Some of the older ones take a bit of work, especially those that didn't have an OS X or Linux driver in the first place but once a generic Mac driver or CUPS is installed they work.

My Macbook is regularly connected to different printers mostly Canon, HP or Epsom and OS X updates haven't stopped them working for me.
