I grew up watching my mum soak un-franked stamps off envelopes. She's the most law-abiding person I know, and if she didn't have a problem with it - well I certainly don't.
Although it's not something I've needed to do in years... Some time back, I did the Royal Mail Survey for about 2 years, and in that time earned hundreds of stamps, which I'm still working my way through! I can't remember when I last had to buy any!

There isn't anything I do that I would count as embarrassingly frugal...
My mum has always done this thing I find weird though, she'll only use half a tissue at a time. She'll rip it in half, use one bit, and but the other half back in the box! Who, apart from her, would want to use half a tissue that someone else has man-handled!
Because it's fun to have money!

  • Oh Flubberyzing, I do the tissue thing as well. I live on my own so no bother but always have a box of full size tissues on hand for visitor.

Well she may be (probably was) law-abiding in other respects - but clearly that was her "Achilles heel" where she diverged from that.

I'm guessing those who steal the cost of stamps by re-using used ones tell themselves "It's only a bit of paper"??? But a £5 note is also "only a bit of paper" and it would be quite clear that it was a theft if someone opened my purse and helped themselves to one of my "bits of paper" that says £5 on it.:rotfl:

I pick up the elastic bands dropped by posties. One is currently holding my trike mudguard clear of the tyre as the mudguard bracket has snapped. This is less embarrassing than it was when the bands were bright red and clearly ex Royal Mail.
My mobile phone is held together with a laccy band dropped by the postie - and it's one of the red ones! :rotfl:

Ilona is vegetarian , no point in her buying meat or fish is there?

In that case why did she buy a whole heap of meat, fish, hot dogs, pork pies and other non-vegetarian products then?

Mr LW hates tissues with a passion, so it's cotton hankies for us.
I have been known to resort to loo roll when I've had a really awful cold or bad hay fever, though.

Do you really not get how TV works or are you just being obtuse?
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Please Feral Moon, do yourself a favour and watch the programme from the start

It is clearly stated that it was a challenge. For Ilona to take the £20 and spend a fiver in each store to see how much she could get

It even quite clearly says that for the challenge she planned a route after ringing the stores in question to find out when the reductions were being made

They weren't just filming her going about her normal shop, it was a challenge to show how much you can save if you shop clever
