Just wondered has anyone else with a Acqua card set up a direct debit online and had them not take the payment and charge you a £12 late fee?

No personal experience but the general rule with DD's and CC's is never rely on a DD being in place until your statement reads "Your payment of £xx.xx will be taken by DD on xx.xx.2016" or words to that effect.0

If you made the DD arrangement far enough in advance of the payment date then you should stand a decent chance of getting them to waive the fee if you ask nicely and maybe even remove any marker from credit files, which is possibly more worth pursuing....0 -
You need to give more information about the circumstances which resulted in the dd not being taken.0
