I agree it would be helpful to have your partner on the same page. It will probably be slower going for him, but as he is cutting back on his festivals and travel, and is frugal with himself in many ways I think there is definitely hope. Gentle encouragement should work wonders.
I'm glad that, regardless of what he decides, you are focused on getting those cc's paid off and then starting on your mortgage. To not have that debt not dragging you down will feel incredible!Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Thank you so much all!! I can't tell you how much it made me smile to see your messages!!Or how fantastic to be paid and settle more of the debt. :j:j:j
Have been soooo looking forward to this post for ages!
The new debt total: £10879.42. But there is another £25 to come off this - when the DD comes out on the 27th - AND any money from things I am selling will be applied so confident I will get it down a little more....I am aiming to get another £80 off. Fingers crossed..
My May list was:
1. Total debt down to £10,800 - almost!
2. Savings to £500 - done :A
3. Putting a little aside for my holiday.. I now have £100 - with just 3 months to do this needs to increase sharpish..
4. Sell things - I have listed on gum tree and will start eBaying over half term. Also sold books and jewellery on a specialist site..
The debt now shapes up as follows:
OD £400 limit
MB+A £927.51 (including cap 1)
Loan £6167.36
HS*C £3384.55
There is - obviously - still a long way to go but I am thrilled to be heading in the right direction! I have paid BF £50 money I owed him for a concert and bought him his present - he needed clothes for his trip to Barcelona - so we went to a big outlet centre and got him 2 shirts, 2 pairs of shorts and a lamp thing that you hang in a tent. Not much of a surprise for him but at least the clothes fit!:)
We also discussed money - a little - and it was all pretty positive. Although we did go out for a meal and to the pub - which was my treat, we stayed in on Saturday with a bottle of wine and shared pizza and salad. Today we went for a long country walk and then had a BBQ which was lovely and (almost) free! I wasn't remotely tempted to buy any treats for myself when shopping so that's feeling like progress. We had a great time and didn't spend silly money at the pub, the weather helped a great deal, but still... Next weekend - concert - is paid for so feeling somewhat under control.
I hope everyone had a lovely weekend and had beautiful weather, it really lifts the spirits. As does the fact that this debt will be less than £10,000 in a couple of months if I stick to the plan.

Wow! What a truly great post! I'm sitting here smiling over it!!
I've thrown various unsundry into the SC with taco seasoning and am calling it dinner. I'm am doing well cooking out of my freezers (two full size and one in the fridge) and refrigerator. But when I look at my bulging pantries (yes plural) I have a long road ahead of me. I raised our six children, all grown and gone save one, and still have trouble not buying hoards of food. sigh...Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Mila,
6 children??!! :T Wow! That's quite a family, must seem very strange to be without them, although no doubt they are frequent visitors. Did you have many siblings growing up, too? I am very jealous of your supplies! The cupboard was pretty bare this end before pay day.
A slow cooker sounds like a great idea. Love the thought of coming home to a nice healthy meal with not so much in the way of preparation.:)
Would love to hang around here catching up on and being inspired by my fave diaries. Sadly, a pile of marking awaits. I've put it off long enough...

Hello diary,
Had a bit of a domestic disaster a couple of weeks ago - a leak from the bathroom was not really running, but certainly dribbling, down the stairs. :mad:I wasn't home at the time so BF (who was!) called an emergency helpline for plumbing matters that's part of my insurance. They came out and said there had been a small leak mainly due to gaps in the grouting so they suggested that I have the bathroom re-tiled, once everything has dried out.:( . The damage - ceiling downstairs needs repainting and bathroom needs decorating - is not worth claiming for on the insurance as the excess for water damage if a shocking £350!!!! When it is dry I will see if the village handyman can sort it for less than that.. I am not at all handy and BF certainly isn't either!! It got me thinking about how I am going to pay for things and not fall off the wagon on the cards..
C£pital 1 account is now formally closed and that feels sooo good!!!! I don't want any more CCs, I clearly can not be trusted around them and so need to have funds of money available...this is going to take a while to build up. And it got me thinking about other stuff I need to save for: Holiday, car, new laptop (one that doesn't randomly switch itself off preferably!!). So I now have 3 new savings accounts labelled accordingly online and will add to them after I got the debt down to the £10,800 I need to stay on track on the debt snowball: This is without touching the £500 which represents my only savings of any kind and is for real emergencies ONLY!:A
This evening I am delivering some bedside tables sold on gum+ree - only £15 but it all helps - that's £15 plus £6.67 from some books in sales today and so it is all creeping closer to where I need it to be for the snowball prediction of October 2017 being debt free ( bar the mortgage - really keen to start getting that thing paid down!):j
Hope everyone is enjoying their Tuesday? I'm off to post yet more books/ dvds. I'm getting pennies for them, but it is so good to have some space on the shelves. I read someone on here saying that it made them feel lighter, have to say I 100% agree and those tiny payments really do add up.
I wish I could upload the debt snowball to here. IN other news my noddle account credit rating has gone up a whole 3 points!! And BF has got us free tickets to the Port Eliot festival, went last year, too and it was a wonderful start to the summer hols.. I said I will drive and pay the petrol as he will have to write a review. I will allocate spends from the budget and not take my bank card to avoid raiding the cashpoint after a glass or two of wine when we fancy a toasted cheese sarnie (at £6.50 a go!!). There must be something about frugal festivaling somewhere..? It is not until the end of July so 2 paydays and lots of potential sales to help out!
Can't believe it is almost the end of May!!!

You are so so on track! Just love reading that!
Awful news about the leak. I absolutely hate when that stuff happens but it does drive home how much we need saving for those dreadful events...sigh...
Hurray for free tickets and an event to look forward to at the same time. It's just great going to see you planning how things will be paid for. Go you!Overprepare, then go with the flow.
