You are correct that the J5 does not offer screen mirroring - and to be honest for no good reason!
Personally I would suggest getting the chromecast dongle for your TV all the same.
I've the Sammy Galaxy S5 and a Smart Sammy TV so I can use screen mirroring AKA MIRACAST - it also works with my HP laptop n stuff!
So why would I recommend getting Chromecast? Because it's just so much easier! When you "mirror"/"miracast" your whole screen is mirrored to the receiving device (TV or other). But there tends to be lag and communication issues especially in a crowded wifi environment where your whole screen is being broadcast wirelessly!
When you use chromecast, the stream is transferred, ie the chromecast dongle is told where to get the stream from and from there the chromecast just handles the media stream cutting out the middle man, other than passing controls such as forward, backward, play, pause, and the like to the sending device! Where this gets real clever though, is that if you have a recent smart TV that is capable of HDMI-CEC control you can still use your TV remote to play, and pause. Then it gets even better: *In some cases* If you send a stream from an app where the TV has a version of the same app installed, the stream will be sent to the Smart TV version of that app! Now that may sound like overkill, and if I were the only person in my household it would be, but I'm not, and chromecast is brilliantly simple to use - your granny can use it!
