Bas*rds, aren't they? This sort of thing should not be allowed any longer. The banks should be put on the same level as utility companies, whereby service cannot be withdrawn.
  • I can understand if they didn't want to give me an account as I did have a default on my credit file a few years ago - its the way they have done it and just unilaterally decided after I had opened the account and did all the work to move to them to close it.

Is your local Barclays open tomorrow?

I would get your wages out asap, what do they say will happen to the funds in the account when its closed, will they send you a cheque.

or has the account already been closed as its now the 29th>

The account is supposed to be closed but I have had money go in and direct debits come out (latest today) so your guess is as good as mine about what is happening.
I went in on Tuesday and they said they would transfer the money to a new account once I have the details. I work away a lot so its not easy to sort. I am off all next week (obvously its a bank hol on Monday) so will go on Tuesday to see whats happening.

Have you had any news from TSB or tried Nationwide?

As it seems partly open I'd suggest you try to transfer it, if you've got a current/basic account opened elsewhere.

TSB have not got back to me - I have applied for a basic account today with nationwide (I am getting desperate to have somewhere to put the money) - they accepted me but say the need proof of identity. I will pop into a branch tomorrow to supply that and then move everything as soon as I can.

Any remaining balance on the account will have been credited to an internal holding account and a note put on his profile detailing the amount owing. Go the branch, preferably with any cards and also passport/driving licence, and they'll give you it in cash.
    : )
  • SIGH.
TSB have refused my application for a basic bank account. I am starting to wonder if Barclays have screwed me over somewhere. Nationwide did accept me - I just need to provide ID once the letter arrives. Once I finally get access to my money I will make a request for CIFAS information.

This morning I got a text message saying my account was at 0.00. I am not able to log into online banking. I am assuming no payments have gone out today. Even though I still dont have any other account I need to get the cash out of there. Was hoping to have a new bank account so they could just transfer my money

Been in this morning, they checked my ID and just gave me the cash there were no problems they just asked for my ID - waiting for the letter from Nationwide so I can get that account open.

I am hoping that its just that because it was so easy and they did not seem worried that there are not fraud flags on my account
