I dont think its because of slow bureaucratic EU. its to give Turkey time to catch up economically and socially to a level where it is more acceptable to let them in.

you have argued very persuasively that
-Turkey is more advanced economically now than Poland was when it joined
-That the Turks are your cousins and so should not be discriminated against

so what don't you like about them?

They need to be even richer before I would be happy for them to get the free movement of people. Actually that is wrong, I would say the Germans need them to be richer as I think Germany may well get 10 x the number of England.

My guess is 20 years will get them to a point economically where there is little economic incentive for many of them to migrate.

But then again Germany might want Turkey in sooner rather than later because they might actively want the migrants if Germany population starts to shrink or is expected to. Maybe the German plan is to accept them in October 2023 and actively hope that the maybe 3 million will migrate to Germany over a 10-15 year period in the hope that it might offset their own population decline. But with the recent large migrants from Syria and elsewhere into Germany who knows

What is for sure is that the EU will only take Turkey if it is in the EUs interest to do so

There might be some counter forces in Germany that might want Turkey in sooner rather than later because they might actively want the migrants if Germany population starts to shrink or is expected to. Maybe the German plan is to accept them in October 2023 and actively hope that the maybe 3 million that will go to Germany over a 10-15 year period will be enough to offset their own population decline. But with the recent large migrant transfers into Germany who knows

What is for sure is that the EU will only take Turkey if it is in the EUs interest to do so and primarily it will be down to Germany because that is where the largest quantity of Turks will migrate to.

Most financially viable countries are part of larger trading compacts. The USA is, Australia is.

Lots of people vote for socialism but that's because they're stupid not because it's good for them.

    Are you sure?

Has Turkey joined the EU yet or is that next week?

TBH, I take your predictions regarding the EU with more than just a pinch of salt.

The post mentions nothing of your october paranoia but anyway

    By October? No chance.

Any chance you could just answer the question ?

    Sure.

Will Turkey join the EU at some point between one second from now and the end of time? Probably.
