Not wanting a dog

But no-one on here is saying they DO treat their animals like children!
How is making a fuss of them, including them in things, taking them on holiday, chatting to them, petting them, letting them sleep on the bed etc, treating them like children?
People treat their dogs this way because they love them and care about them. They are part of the family.
The only one who appears to be misunderstanding is you SDW.
Thanks for showing your true colours. :T
Chatting to a dog is plain crazy, you might as well talk to a fish.Hi, we’ve decided to remove your signature.0 -

Children usually share a bed from within the sheets, dogs, on the other hand are usually lying on top of it - neither is weird.0 -

I would find it weird for someone not to talk to a dog or any pet. I talk to my dog all the timeThe world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0 -
I am the least likely person to ever consider a dog to be human but I used to talk to mine. I do not have any animals now because I travel too much.
Unless it was very small dog I would not have them on the furniture or beds. A friend of mine has a Maltese and you do not notice it sitting beside you. You could never say that about a German Shepherd.0 -
I knew a couple who slept with a dalmatian and a cat on the bed every night.
One of my training class had her gsd on her bed. When her husband came in from nightshift the dog would growl and wouldn't let him on the bed, so he slept in the spare room.0 -
I have been known to converse with my previous dog's ashes, which possibly puts me towards the top of the weirdness scale. The saving grace being she's not answered me yet.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Are you actually serious?
I have never known ANYone have a dog - or a cat - and not talk to it.
In fact, people talk to all kinds of pets; birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, ponies, donkeys etc etc... Why would you NOT talk to them? They're living creatures with souls and personalities, and believe it or not, feelings too.I would find it weird for someone not to talk to a dog or any pet. I talk to my dog all the timeToo right. I chat away to my cat all the time and he chatters back... ok, most of his conversation is treats related but he's still a better companion than 99% of people I've ever met
Exactly!
Why would you have a pet and not talk to them?! How sad for the pet.You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Crufts and KC should be ashamed of themselves. Parliamentary action to banning both shows and breeders. And not before time!
The German Shepherd has split over the past few decades into working and show types. It is to be expected and has happened in most of the gundog breeds too.
In Germany that cannot happen because a dog has to be able to work before it can ever have a show qualification. Long coated German Shepherds are very popular but will not win any prizes but that is because in wet weather their coat parts and the rain can get to their skin and make them cold. With the regular coat the rain just falls off without the dog getting soaked through.
White German Shepherds are also popular but the reason they are not permitted is because white dogs are often deaf. They crop up now and again even if you do not breed for them but knowledgeable breeders do not breed from white dogs.
The Border Collie people fought for years to have Border Collies kept out of the show ring but they lost. In a few generations they too will suffer - but their markings will be good!0 -

Alfie is lying up on the bed with me snuggled into me and we had a chat about the weather and how he's not going out for a while yet
I'm just in from letting the hens out and wished them all a good morning and said thank you for the eggs already laid. When I take them lunch later i shall no doubt chat away to them all whilst I pick them up and pet them - and yes they all have names and I know them all individually by their mannerisms
like elsien, I talk to my last dog all the time and I don't even have his ashes, just the marker from his grave
I do have to admit I don't really talk to the fish unless I'm feeding them
..........away to book myself a padded cell and straight jacket0
