Be sure to update the thread! No changing the outcome so pointless worrying (easy to say I know) but I have every hope that you'll be fine 3 years down the line.
  • Thanks for your words of encouragement alltaken, rather than making me feel that I have behaved very badly and deserve to be sat here worrying!
I will certainly post update once I have spoken to the DRO Unit.

....the debt was not connected to the loans I had with them....These loans were paid in full & date back to over 8 years ago.
You owed the Bank £741. You never paid this amount. Now you have a cheque for far more money than the total you were allowed not to pay.

Should you really be encouraged to seek a "refund" of money you didn't pay in the first place?

    Martin Lewis 2007:
I didn't set up MSE to be personally judgemental, but to help people whatever their circumstances. If you have problems with the Bankruptcy laws then the 'Discussion Time' forum is the appropriate place.

Many people who have gone bankrupt, have had serious debts, have hidden them for a time, been scared to confront them, suffered depression or have even had suicidal thoughts because of them.

So may I caution MoneySavers to err on the side of kindness. The fact bankrupts are here means they're looking for help, guidance and to take charge of their finances - and that in itself is admirable

Please use your knowledge and kindness to help rather than to berate.

Every now and then we have had a number of offensive and insensitive comments made on the BR board.

What do we mean by this?
A person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads is know as a Troll.
If you should get such a comment made on any thread you post, please realise this comment is not directed at you personally so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal because the majority of us really are a lovely bunch – ooops, modesty!

What should I do if I get a comment made on my thread?
Firstly do not respond to the comment as this is invariably what the troll wants.
To get rid of the offending post, click on the “Report” icon at the bottom of their post, as shown below:

    report.gif or BNBWqlG.png

Fill in the form which will alert the MSE team, who will then review its content and deal with it as appropriate; sometimes even deleting the Poster by making their status PPR’d (Posting Privileges Removed). Remember, this site is an asset to so many people, especially those that feels like their world is falling in around them. There is a wealth of knowledgeable people here all willing to help, whatever you do, do not let the comments of one silly individual deter you from availing yourself of the knowledge base that is on offer here.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE FORUM

It is testament to the work that Martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time, knowledge and experience freely to others; without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of their debt crisis

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT

  • Well.....Fatbelly was absolutely spot on!I spoke with the DRO Unit this morning and was told that "Because you have not had any previous insolvencies, the money is yours to keep" :)
After a weekend of worrying (silly I know) am feeling very relieved!
We advised not to respond to negative comments that may be posted on here, but I do feel the need to share the following....Those of you that feel the need to leave hurtful comments on here, think twice before doing so.You are completely unaware of the cicumstances which have led to a person seeking help through this Forum and shouldn't have to be.
My finacial difficulties arose when Cancer decided to pay me a visit and having to spend almost 6 years in remission.A husband that left home because HE couldn't cope with my illness.Followed by,due to health problems, having to reduce my full time working hours to part time and a significant drop in salary.
Yes,the refunded PPI is of course very much appreciated but the most important gift that I have been given, is the opportunity to still be here and watch my grandchildren growing up!

I have only written this so as to hopefully, make those who leave negative comments aware of the upset they can cause. At the end of the day,no matter what the cause, the Forum is and always should be a place where a person can seek sound,non- judgemental advice.
    Thanks for reading.
  • Delighted for you.

Human nature is to worry, well for most of us it is, but I never doubted for one second that the DRO Unit would take any other stance in these circumstances.

    Enjoy your windfall.
  • Thank you so much!

Fantastic news! Go and treat your grandchildren and don't get hung up on the very slight negative this post endured, you have likely helped many with the answers you obtained.

Thanks alltaken,a treat for the grandchildren is definately on the cards!
I do like to think that I have helped to make things clearer for others,in respect of PPI complaints and dicharged DRO's.
No hang ups for me,at the end of the day, the support I have had on here, far outweighs the negativity and I thank all concerned for that. Not least yourself!
