People who vote based on emotions (which is what that is) were always more likely to vote out. She was always more likely to vote out and was probably looking for an excuse.

it would seem that wanting to 'stay' because of security of what one knows is 'emotion'

but why is being against TTIP an emotion ?

I didn't read it as being against TTIP. The way I read it is as follows:

Nothing changed about the benefits of remaining in vs out between before hearing Obamas intervention and after. The thing that changed was that it stirred up an emotional reaction to an outsider perceived as trying to influence the result, which caused this particular voter to sway to out. The facts didn't change.

    I guess I read
She hates the way the US is controlled by Corporations and saw his intervention for what it was - a desperate bid to save TTIP.

this as a point of substances whether or not one personally supports TTIP.

Fair enough, maybe I'm being too cynical.

In hindsight, I apologise to Alan_Brown. If I wasn't cynical, then the generous way to read his comment is straight forward dislike of TTIP and wanting out because of that. Still, nothing changed before or after this message.

Is that really a thing though? I can't imagine many people want to travel from across Europe, leaving family and friends behind just to sign on. This is quite an interesting piece on it:
    ...

We routinely accuse British people on here and in DT of living a deliberate lifestyle on benefits.

So why should this not also apply to some Europeans? It's an open marketplace after all.

I know what some people in a Polish office think is wrong, and I have seen it echoed in Polish media statements.

They think our benefit systems are the things that are broken, not the EU! They may have a point. They certainly seem out of alignment.

Generali me ole mate, you're a clever lad, but on this occasion supremely naïve. Come sit in my office, see the new migrants coming in here asking for house that accepts housing benefits. The majority I would say - and all letting agents I know report the same as did that Chinese British letting agent in the QT audience

I note you resorted to the old 'sign-on' diversion, we're not on about signing on, we're on about all manner of benefits claimed, such as those that follow a child with 'needs' around, HB, CB, DLA etc etc

Never heard of a single one of them saying on arrival, 'oh no thanks, don't talk to me about the shopping list of benefits on offer, I'm not interested'
