I tried this last night, but for some strange reason the link wouldn't recognise my (formatted) USB drive, despite Windows Explorer seeing it.
I DL'd the media file which took 3 hours - it's only valid for 24 hours, but now (due to other circumstances) I'm not going to get time to burn and install
Why do you think that the media is only valid for twenty four hours? It may have just been a link that was valid for twenty four hours. The media itself can be utilised at any time.
So what did you download? The ISO?
The link doesn't need to recognise the drive. You can create the media later. Just choose to download the .iso image0 -

Click here and choose Download Tool Now
Since you've already installed Windows 10, you should be able to do a clean install without backing up activation.
The backup is just a precaution.
Creating a USB flash drive now.
Will it not ask for an activation key when I install it?Sigless0 -

1. Win10_1511_1_English_x64 which is 4.11 GB
2. MediaCreationTool which is 17.5 MB0 -
Sorry, it was late, I *thought* that was what it said.
I have two files:-
1. Win10_1511_1_English_x64 which is 4.11 GB
2. MediaCreationTool which is 17.5 MB
You can create the bootable media at any time. You can use a DVD and the Windows 7 Image Burner if the machine to which you will install have a DVD drive.0 -
Contemplating just going back to windows 7 now, I had no problems at all with that.Sigless0

It should auto activate, but I'll post instructions to back up activation anyway.
You can clean install both from now on without need for a product key.0 -

You don't need to do it anyway. Windows 10 will activate without it.
Did you run as Admin?
Otherwise it looks as if you are running a 64 bit application on a 32 bit OS.
Did you install 32 bit or 64 bit?0
