I have the following laptop/netbook.
http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?oid=5212358
I did a fresh install of Windows 7 then updated it to Windows 10 but for the last few months it's slowed to a crawl.
I have less than a handful of things installed. Firefox. VCL, drop box and open office.
I regularly run Ccleaner and spyware/virus scans (which are always clean). I regularly check what's starting up when Windows starts and remove anything not needed.
Yet over the past few months it's become unbearable slow.
Am I missing something or is it just a case of its now too old and I should look to replace it.
Thanks.

Its got a poor processor. Was it ok when first upgraded to 10? If so do a windows 10 "refresh" (NOT "reset" which will bin your data).
Also check 1. you haven't put a second anti-virus checker on it (windows 10 has its own) and 2. If "trusteer rapport" is installed get rid of it ASAP.0 -

Thanks for the reply.
It was fine on Windows 7 and it was fine when I first updated it to Windows 10.
No double virus. I just left Windows defender as I had used that on Windows 7.
No Trusteer rapport.
I don't have any data that I'm bothered about keeping. It's all backed up.
A refresh will basically just remove everything I've installed is that correct? I assume so as its just warned me some things will need to be installed manually.
If so won't it just slow down again when I install them all again?Sigless0 -

Thanks.
Was hoping there may be something else to try first as it's only a month or so since I did a clean install and updated it to Windows 10. Whilst I don't have anything I need to backup it's still a hassle.
Is there anything I can try before wiping it? I don't want to just reset. Put everything back on and have to do the same again next month as its back to a crawl etc.Sigless0 -
Look at task manager; is "system idle" at 100% most of time (good)? If not, what is running? Perhaps windows update or Dropbox?0

Task manager has 'system and compressed memory' at 10% ish and that's about it (except when Firefox is open then hogs the cpu power).
I don't have Dropbox startup with it so I open it when needed and then close it after.Sigless0 -
Back up activation and do a clean install of Windows 10.0

Download it and create bootable media using a USB flash drive of 4GB or more.
Click here and choose Download Tool Now
Since you've already installed Windows 10, you should be able to do a clean install without backing up activation.
The backup is just a precaution.0 -

I tried this last night, but for some strange reason the link wouldn't recognise my (formatted) USB drive, despite Windows Explorer seeing it.
I DL'd the media file which took 3 hours - it's only valid for 24 hours, but now (due to other circumstances) I'm not going to get time to burn and install :mad:0
