I've never been a Sky customer so I haven't been following anything to do with their prices. I'm considering cancelling but to be honest it still seems like a good deal. I'm just a bit !!!!ed off about the way the deal was presented then changed after signing. Maybe the offer should have stated........£30 for the first two months then £33.50 for the remainder of the 12 month contract.

The contract is for a specific fixed discount (eg 50%) and not a fixed price.

I'd imagine Martin has this covered, the statement about no price rises is pretty clear so would expect Martin to take this up with sky if they did attempt a price rise

I'm hoping so too because I took up this offer (after a good few years away from Sky) on the specific basis of it being £30 a month for 12 months...not to receive my first bill email yesterday basically telling me "welcome to Sky...oh and your bill is going up ...":rotfl:

This is what I signed up to:
    MSE-Sky-offer.jpg

Now that does actually say £30 for 12 months and the MSE email also did state "Sky have told us they will not increase this during the 12 month offer period"

So I'm also starting to feel a bit miffed when I get this email yesterday:

Not gonna happen lol. I'll be calling today and if they try and fob me off I'll be cancelling straight away.

I've been connected for 2 days and already they've seriously annoyed me  lol

The offer I took and the other posters above are referring to was actually for a fixed price, not a % discount.

I got my offer from Martins Money Tips email. it too was a fixed price. The link clearly stated: The Complete Bundle for £30 a month for 12 months. No mention of a price increase within the 12 month period. The only disclaimer i can see burried in the very small print is prices may go up during your contract. The devil is always in the small print eh!

The quotation doesn't say 'fixed', but was the current price at the time of advertising (and means this offer won't go beyond12 months; some offers only lasting for 3,6 , 9 or 10 months). Their terms and conditions allow for price increases, but you do have the 60 days' grace.

Cancelling after two days of use would incur a high exit fee, as free cancellation (cooling off period) only applies before the service is started.

If that is the case (and I'm not doubting what you say) then this whole "offer" was a con. Reel people in with the juicy offer and practically immediately inform us that the monthly fee will be rising by more than 10%! Disgusting sharp practice springs to mind...

i do know what £30 a month for 12 months means when i see it advertised. When an offer changes to something other than what is boldly stated then it is a con. Any company that uses small print, disguised terms, follow up correspondence or any other clever ways that result in you not getting exactly what you signed up for is under handed. In my opinion this type of behaviour from a very big company causes deteriorating trust from the consumer and can affect many other companies. Is this the standards we are supposed to be used too and accept?

Just to update anyone else here that took up the £30 for 12 months offer - I went on the sky chat advisor thing and was also told by the first person I spoke with that the increase would still apply and that there was nothing they could do.

At this point I said well if you're not going to honour the offer then I'm not going to honour the direct debit ;) it was at this point when I mentioned cancelling...I was put through to retentions and chatted to someone who looked at my account and immediately sorted it saying yes...you will still be paying £30 for the 12 months, no price increase.

I kept the entire chat transcript...just in case...this is Sky after all :rotfl:
  • I am really miffed about this. It has happened to me too - I carefully read Martin's info and the clearly stated offer - SKY TV £30 FOR 12 MONTHS just like other readers, and the fact that Martin was told that although SKY is imposing a price increase on customers soon, receivers of this offer will not be affected - GREAT, except that IT IS NOT TRUE.
My SKY TV was installed yesterday, and on day 1 I receive an email from SKY saying that in 60 days time my costs will increase by £3.50 + £0.75 = £4.25 per month.
I am not happy, this is clearly a CON. I am sure that Martin will not be impressed either and I sincerely hope that he is able to bring influence to bear on behalf of all of us to have this decision by SKY changed.
This doesn't do his reputation any good and will not encourage me to take up any money saving advice on MSE in future. If you can't rely on the information given, there's no trust.
