Very quick welcome to Topsy and welcome back to Elaine ( I would have been a lurker during your posting days I think )
I home schooled my youngest from senior school age and found myself raising four children suddenly alone so I reckon we should get along just fine .
Henry Hoover is smiling at me so here I go !

There but for fortune go you and I.
  • Good Morning everyone, a sparkling day here at the moment and warm enough to go out without a coat if you keep moving. He Who Knows is on the allotment and I've done all that needs doing in the house, just waiting for a wash load to finish and go outside on the line. I'll be making us some soup for the next couple of days lunches and am going to cook a nice YS brisket joint I found yesterday in the slow cooker for our supper tonight. DD2 and Zebra safely back from their US holiday and I hope they got some sleep last night as they, with the exception of the little one who slept most of the journey, got not a wink and were shattered yesterday afternoon.

Welcome in to Topsygirl and welcome back to Elaine, I home schooled my youngest from the age of 7 to 10 when we were abroad in Germany the alternative was for her to be put in the earliest non german speaking class with all the Turkish and Vietnamese children who also had no german, she'd have been unhappy so the home schooling worked very well and she was way ahead of her peers when we came back to England, it's full on hard work though isn't it?

Have yourselves a really nice day everyone, Lyn xxx.
  • Morning, (((((((((((hugs)))))))))))) if you need one.

Bright morning, quite warm out of the wind. OH is in the garden.

We are having our meal at lunchtime today as OH has his appointment for his scan this afternoon at 5.20. He can have a drink and something to eat before we go. Will give him tea and cake when he gets up from his siesta.

I have cooked mince for lunch, added tomato puree to half of it, for spag bol, to take with us at the weekend, must remember to take the parmesan cheese with us. Something else to put on the list.

Went shopping yesterday in stead of tomorrow so I can spend the morning baking and pulling together everything that does not have to be left to the last minute. Reminds me of when we used to take the caravan away.

Some low life has caught the back of the car. OH noticed yesterday morning when he was cleaning it that the bumper panel was sprung on one side. We called at the local garage when we came home yesterday and it was obvious from the scratches that some one had scrapped us. OH took the car in this morning, they are going to try and pop it back. He has to go for it about 1 o'clock, so lunch is at 12.15. I hope it is not going to coat too much money will be tighter for a while.

We had notice that our civil service pensions are not going up this year, it saves us having to contact the Council, but its a bummer.

Right off to sort out lunch.

    Wave to topsy and elaine:wave:

A late Happy Birthday to hilstep and I hope some treatment can help you be more comfortable.

Nice sunny day so a load of washing is outside and another one is in the machine. Nice to be able to wake up late as no builders today so planning a lazy day. Maybe sort the airing cupboard out and put some bedding and towels upstairs in a chest of drawers for when family visit. Then put freshly washed stuff in airing cupboard for a day or so and repeat the process as it is silly to have all the towels and bedding for six people in one place downstairs.

DD came down last night for a meal and to fit some runners and baskets in the bottom of my wardrobe. She will do the rest at the weekend and will have me "organised" despite myself. She left with three portions of the chicken and veg pasta to freeze so was quite pleased.

Have been looking for nice curtains online but the ones I like are either all out of stock or the wrong size.

    Hugs to all

I did not notice that civil service pensions were not rising this year and had just assumed I would be having a few (very few) pounds extra

  • Elona, I just forget how the letter said it, but it boiled down to no rise in pensions this year, something to do with the rate of inflation our pensions are linked to.

In one way I was happy, because it means we do not have to take chapter and verse into the council and get our benefits changed. In another way annoyed, because things are going up including Council Tax.

OH has just fetched the car the chap at the garage has managed to spring the panel back, apparently who ever hit us had broken a clip which the garage has replaced. Cost? a tenner next time you are passing!! One advantage of living in a village, they know where you live!!

I got a £5 voucher from Morrison yesterday, It has to be spent by 24th, we will be away, so we are going to the hospital via Melton. The three plants that jump into the basket will take care of the £5. Hopefully I will get 2 plants for £3 and one plant for £2. no bad.........

    Good afternoon everyone

It's lovely and sunny here today and after a sleep I feel a lot better and more with it. It didn't help that my hubby was snoring loudly for hours last night so I couldn't sleep. He's gone to work today but his back was very sore this morning (probably from me poking him :D) so I don't know if he will manage the whole day.

My lovely CMHT lady came this morning to take me out but I couldn't manage it today, it is disappointing but I am going to go out to town with her in a fortnights time. I will try not to think about it till nearer the time though.

I've got all the ingredients to make a beef chilli for tea so I will wait for the girls to get home and they can help to make it. I made paprika chicken and german potato salad yesterday and it went down well. Tomorrow I am making chicken kebabs with houmous and tzaziki, I don't know how to spell that properly :rotfl:.

I'm halfway through making a little knitted bonnet for my neice as her baby is due in a few weeks. I will make some booties too to match. I am enjoying making baby clothes for a change. I think I will make some doll clothes when I get bored of making baby stuff and dress up some poor neglected dollies that are hiding away in DD14's room.

Welcome to the new posters, hope you enjoy being here and I look forward to getting to know you.
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

What ho, Topsy and Elaine; pull up a chair and make yourselves comfortable. :o
    Belated Hoppy Birdday Hilstep.
It's mine tomorrow, but it's getting firmly kicked under the carpet and ignored.
TA I have given up with hairdressers, hate going, I get bored when they are cutting it so I just put it up in a bun or a pleat thing and when it gets really long I steel myself and get a few inches hacked off the ends
The last time I visited a hairdresser was in the mid 1980s. I had a full-blown panic attack, and haven't been back since. Mr LW colours it for me, and keeps the ends trimmed. :A
now in my sixties there still times I look for an adultier adult .
That's a lost cause around here - the only other person here is Mr LW. 'Nuff said....... :rotfl:

  • Good afternoon all,

A lovely day here, warm in the sun but very cool in the shade.

I had a nail appointment this morning, which I decided I would keep. Himself is OK to be left on his own for an hour, and I felt I should have an hour to myself, it was a nice break.

He is continuing to lose weight (fluid) but a side effect of one of the drug changes is that he bleeds. He had a shave last night and came downstairs looking like he had done ten rounds, and then the cat accidental caught his hand this morning and it took ages to stop the bleeding. He has always taken aspirin but now he has a blood thinner drug(not warfarin), so I have ordered him an electric shaver. He has always said he didn't want one, but I think it might be a tad safer.

Those of you on the BSD are doing so well. It hasn't always been possible to stick to it being at the hospital every day, but I have lost 2 stone now, of course some of that might be worry as well.

Pollyanna I am so sorry you had such a bad week with DD, it must be so stressful for you. I assume she can become very ill very quickly. Sending you a big hug, you sound like a lovely Mum.

Meanmarie, many congratulations on looking forward to a new grandchild.

Dumpling I hope you are feeling a little better this afternoon, tomorrow is another day.

Csarina good luck to your DH with his MRI scan, I hope you receive some answers in the fullness of time.

    Have a good day all

  • Judi,

I hope everything goes as well as it can tomorrow.

Hold your head up high and look them in the eye, and have no regrets you did everything you could for your Mum.

    Hugs
