Its a real shame that you have to hunt around when in reality the refund should be repaid automatically and in good time.

    Terrible communication systems.

    Well, fall off my seat.

Checked bank account and see that my money has been refunded from TalkTalk.

Does that mean I can now just close the DD from my bank or am I going to have to go to TalkTalk to end it even though technically I do not have an account with them?

Also, not over keen the my personal data is held with TalkTalk, is there any way I can ask for this to be deleted?

You should be able to cancel DDs yourself, my bank certainly lets me do this through online banking or in branch.

As you said in a previous post it should have been refunded in a timely manner, you started your post on 18th April and here we are nearly a month later.

I cancelled my Direct Debit because I had heard others say how TalkTalk take your money without authority and their own representative admitted on this forum that if people do not ask they do not refund the overcharges they do by default.

That did not stop them adding charges for a service that had been cancelled months earlier and they even charged me for not having a direct debit.

It took hours of my time with the Talk Talk filipino rep not understanding and just repeating his script trying to bully me into saying I was happy (oxymoronic) he then called me back a plethora of times and kept trying the same thing.

Months later they finally credited the account.

I was able to ascertain that TalkTalk have designed their system to do this, that it takes money for services they are not providing and that unless you complain they will just leave it.

Even if you do complain the correction does not get applied to your account for months and those bar tenders at TalkTalk report a non payment to credit reference agencies.

I never agreed to them sharing my data with credit reference agency and there is no meaningful opt out as prescribed by the data protection act.

Sadly they will never delete your data, the best you can hope for is to ask them to never share it but considering they disregard the data protection act on so many levels, I am not sure they would ever comply. Then we have them allowing their customer data to be hacked by not taking adequate measures to protect their network nor do they adequately vet the people they grant access to it (they had an IT company in India selling our data).

They also got a slap on the wrist for breaching the "purpose" aspect of data protection act when people were providing their phone number for the PURPOSE of testing availability of broadband. They took that number and had high pressure salesman call you. Again no opt out offered and when I advised the caller TalkTalk were breaking the Data Protection act he smuggly replied "it does not apply to us"!!

Whilst a customer I was opted out of all comms but they repeatedly passed my number to their mobile side and they cold called me, settings on account were set to NO MARKETING, they also send me marketing letters and emails trying to get me to upgrade.

If people really knew all the stuff TalkTalk do, they would NEVER deal with TalkTalk.

You will note that the TalkTalk reps on here never engage a problem here, they just try and move you away from this site, that is their role.

Tell your friends, share your experience, it is the only way the consumer can level the playing field of this company who seem to think the law does not apply to them.

David, these are exactly the issues I'm concerned about.

How can it be that TalkTalk are abbe to get away with such blatant bad practice? Surly there must be some official body that would take action with such a lousy company.

I think I'll take the risk of seeing if I can close off the direct debit myself. I cannot think of anything that I could further be charged for - but then again - TalkTalk!!

My daughter took out a plan with talk talk but due to NEVER getting connected she cancelled within the 20 days. She is due a refund (service not provided as promised).
However the rep says because she cancelled the direct debit they cannot refund the credit until she sets up the debit again! Surely they do not need the direct debit in place to issue a refund. The original banking details are still the same. Is it me or do I smell a rat!

    Hi dswellydave,

There would need to be an active direct debit on the account for us to refund direct to a bank account. Without this we would need to send a cheque refund.

    Thanks

  • Hi Everyone,

I'm new on this forum, and I'm hoping to get advice regarding an issue with talk talk. I was late in paying my mobile bill, and talk talk have disconnected my account. I have since paid the bill, but they have refused to reconnect my service. They have also refused to give me back my mobile number. I have had this number for over 5 years, and I would really like to hold on to it. Please help.

    Formal Complaint to Ofcom

You can have what dispute you like but they have to allow you to port your number

    https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-telecoms-and-internet/information-for-industry/numbering/number-portability-info

Get onto twitter and tweet OFCOM AND TALKTALK also to Dido Harding CEO

    e.g.

@Ofcom how do I stop @TalkTalk from stealing my number REFUSING TO PORT http://!!!!!!/2h7sF6R @talktalkgroup

But TT didn't refuse to port the OP's number-a PAC was never requested. They breached the contract by failure to pay the bill, and the service was terminated. I don't know the reason for TT's refusal to reconnect, but presumably the request for payment was made more than once, and they have decided they don't want the OP as a customer-which is their prerogative.
The mobile number would have been recycled once the contract was ended, so little chance of recovering it now.
And OFCOM do not handle consumer complaints-that is the job of the Communications Ombudsman-who will require you to go through the supplier's own complaints procedure first.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
