when unemployment leap by about a million in the last recession there were not many millionares outside the job centre at 8.30 am

The post-brexit depression would hurt the lowest paid the most obviously.
And those who are able to hang on to their job, can look forward to some 'red tape cutting' (aka removal of legislation regarding paid holidays, maternity leave, agency workers rights, etc...) by a righter-wing Tory party if Cameron & Co. is forced out.
The low paid voting for brexit... never was there a more clear-cut case of turkeys voting for Christmas. :)
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Not since the Scottish Referendum anyway.

Poor, younger-middle-aged Scots voted to leave. Every other demographic voted to stay.

Poor, younger-middle-aged Scots are exactly the group that are starting to run out of time to get better skills to earn more so are likely to be earning a large portion of their income from the state for many years.

History tells us that people that feel that they don't have a stake in society are more likely to vote to kick over the statues as they presumably feel that things couldn't be worse. The fact that almost all 'poor' people in the UK are extremely well off internationally is neither here nor there apparently.

    It's not a theoretical concept, it's a fact.

Try telling that to the Green Party or UKIP voters. Or me. My vote went nowhere and the laws that most negatively impact me in this country are local UK laws, not EU laws. I can't change those any more than I can change EU laws. On top of that, if I could change them, what is the objection to the EU laws? Which ones are making your life bad that you need desperately to get changed and it will all be better outside of the EU?
The point of laws & govt isn't to make us better off but I think you already corrected yourself there. Most people would put safety, for example, above wealth.

No, don't try that angle please. I corrected my understanding of Michaels post. I maintain that a government is there to provide a function to society. If you measure the outcome of this function and state that you will be worse off under a certain outcome and still vote for it, then this to me is an irrational belief system in play.

That's a ridiculous argument. The facts are, outside of the EU the UK Govt could make it's own laws. The fact it might not be the particular EU Govt you want is irrelevant. As part of the EU we're subject to laws that were often put in place directly against UK interests.

You originally said "I mean, what is the point of it all, the point of laws and government, if not to make us all better off? There is quite literally, no other point!" Which is clearly utter bunk. I thought you'd retracted it subsequently, but if not then fair enough. However it is still utter bunk.

Can you point out some of these laws that are directly against our interests and that we didn't have the ability to veto if we wished?

We can already make our own laws. Which EU laws are you specifically against?

I clarified what I meant. Would you like to present your argument on what government is for?

I'd imagine this is the demographic most hit by unfettered inward EU migration.

And that will be worst hit by leaving the EU.

I generally expect better of you Hamish 'one data point' McTavish.

How does this compare to previous Crosby Polls if there have been any?
    I think....

More to the point, where are the Stills, Nash and Young Polls?

    Carry On
