Do you feel comfortable in the car now too? I admit yesterday when I was driving it around the street I was sort of like hmmm this isn't too bad, but on the motorway and I was at 4/5 Revs I was thinking oh my god!

Just an adjustment period I think.

    I don't mind it now.

It is a fun little car, handles quite well also.

Even doing lots of urban running around it gives 45mpg. It has been getting 650/700 miles a week put on it at the moment and will hit 10k miles this week so we have put nearly 3000 miles on it since February.

I wish my car had dab and Bluetooth that would make long journeys more pleasurable and as for the power thing, as long as the car will go 70 mph that's all you need and you can enjoy the lower running costs of a smaller car.

If you are driving 35,000 miles per year then you really should have bought a turbodiesel. Once you go beyond about 10K per year petrol is going to cost you far more. 45mpg is not very economic by modern standards.

You are aware that not many turbo diesels will give brilliant MPG when driven round town?

And stop start journeys all day are not exactly going to be good for a complicated DPF equipped turbo Diesel are they?

And usage is not a constant, the car could easily drop back to 200miles a week or less, at the moment it is doing 650/700 but that is not written in stone.

I personally think 45mpg in a car used for stop start urban use is more than adequate.

If you look at real MPG that owners are getting rather than the results of the EU tests then you will see that 45mpg is decent enough. I think the EU figures are closer to 65mpg off the top of my head, the EU tests might indicate that a small diesel car can return 75mpg or 80mph, but how many people are actually obtaining those kind of figures?

Similar usage got 60mpg in our old Clio mk3, but that was a non DPF vehicle, I doubt very much if a 14 plate DCi Clio would do that MPG let alone beat it.

And what kind of small diesel on a 14plate (7k on the clock) are you going to get for £5698?

Have you checked through all the small print on your agreement?
I just recently got a brand new car on PCP and the small print says that I have a right to terminate the agreement within 14 days from the date of signing. I'm not sure how this works if the car has been driven, but that's exactly what it states on my agreement and you would imagine a car would have been driven quite a few times within 14 days!

i have recently been through something similar, just before Christmas my Seat ibiza (120bhp 1.9tdi) was written off, i got provide a vauxhall astra (110 bhp 1.6 petrol) as a curtosy car, and to start of with i HATED it, could not drive it, it didnt have the power i wanted, just wrong in every sense, ok so it was comfortable, but i just did not like driving it. however after about 2 months (wonderful speedy insurance settlement) i had got used to it, and learnt how to drive it how it was surposed to drive, and do you want to know something, i didnt mind driving it at all, so bare with it, it could just be a adjustment period.

this being said as soon as i got my money i have gone for a decent powered diesel again because i just prefer the power delivery (and i do around 20k a year)
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

My husbands other car is a 1.4 polo blue GT so against the diesel we had they are pretty much of the same power. Because I also drive this car too I am definitely noticing the difference. It's because the power isn't there and I think that's what's putting me off and I keep thinking in my head how am I going to drive 200 miles in this?! This is what I should have thought on the test drive.

Having said that, it's comfortable, spacious enough for me, has DAB and Bluetooth so I really don't know why I am complaining! *head in hands*

I have a polo 1.4 blue GT and can well understand that you will notice the difference between that and any " city" type car after all the polo does 0-60 in 6. 8 secs. not many of the type of car you are driving now will get anywhere near that.
You will I'm sure get used to your new car, but I would be using your husbands polo for the long journeys, you will find it less stressful.

If the OP was to use the Polo for the long journeys, would that make her the main driver and therefore need to notify the insurance company?

    insurance may even go down

If you're at 4-5K RPM, then either you need to be keeping a close eye out for speed cameras and unmarked police cars, or else you've forgotten to change up a gear.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Have you ever driven a small engined city car?

With that comment I suspect the answer may be no.

As you have no low down pull and need to be revved to get meaningful progress.

Such progress will still not be swift when we are talking about 60/70bhp.

Another point relating to a comment about about annual mileage.

Lots of companies in London seem to be buying small engined petrol cars. Some of the meter reading cars are petrol for instance.

I can't see these cars doing less than 20k a year and will be on the go most of the day, but crucially the miles driven are probably not really compatible with a DPF equipped diesel car.
