Is getting my £310 back likely?
Hi, I'm after some advice please.
I bought a new car, picked it up yesterday, it's a pre registered car so had a bit off. All told it came to £7201, I paid a deposit of £201, leaving £7000 on the day of pick up. I went yesterday to collect it, signed everywhere I needed to sign then they took me to a card machine to pay, Paid it then went back to me daughter and asked her if she could remember how much was left to pay, £7000 she said, now I know this is my own fault but I've paid £7310? When the guy came back I said I was a bit concerned about the £310, I couldn't make out what he was on about, mind you neither could my daughter, music playing in the show room didn't help either.
Ive looked over the paperwork and I can't for the life of my work out where it's come from.
I should have taken my original paperwork showing that there was £7000 left to pay, also a one showing the £210 deposit, I've email a copy of my paperwork showing this. I know this is partly my own fault, I'm beating myself up enough over this as it is, but, do you think I'm likely to get the £310 back?

I would have thought that your account with the dealer would end up in credit if total payments is more than the invoice amount so you could ask for a refund of the balance0

Instead of emailing why don't you just walk into the dealership and explain the situation to the dealer principle/sales manager. You mention that you brought up the subject when you picked up the car, what did they say then?
Are you sure you haven't bought any extras, such as GAP insurance or a service agreement?0 -
If your invoice shows a total of £7,511, it should be possible to identify where the spurious £310 came from.
Surely a direct question to the garage or dealership, " What exactly was the extra £310 for?" will elicit an adequate answer?
Maybe you didn't get the "bit off" you were promised?
Did the garage or dealership tax the car before you took delivery? That would give rise to an additional charge, although there doesn't seem to be a VED band at £310. £290 is the nearest I can find.
Did you inadvertently agree to one off those special bodywork finishes (Sureguard, or similar) that car dealers so like to sell as an extra?
I would go back to the garage or dealership. Take someone with you who knows about cars and how to be assertive and demand an explanation.

The pertinent word here, as explained above. is "assertive". You simply need to back into the dealership, armed with your original invoice/purchase agreement and receipt of all payments and get them to explain where the extra £310 has come from. As simple as that.0

I'm going back to the dealership on Monday to sort it out, I just wondered what my chances of getting it back are.
The only thing I paid extra for was the scotch guard and paint protection, they're on the paperwork I have and are included in the £7201. I said that I wanted to keep around the £7000 mark so they gave me a discount on that to keep the price down. The tax was £30.
When I said I was confused as to where this £310 came from, he just didn't seem to make any sense, started on about air conditioning, but that was standard anyway, even my daughter couldn't figure out what he was on about.
I know I should have been more assertive, if I don't get it back I know I've only got myself to blame.0 -
It sounds like an error to me, and they should sort it out.
Don't be confrontational or anything, but go in there and say it looks like there's been a mistake which you'd like to sort out.
It wouldn't be road tax or something like that would it?0 -
The road tax was £30, then £20 for petrol. My paperwork says total price £7201, I paid the £201 as a deposit so that it was a straight £7000 left to pay.
I've only got myself to blame for this.0 -
Road tax etc should be included in the original invoice. If the Invoice says £7201 then that's all they have to pay.0

This is what I thought, I told him I was concerned as to where the £310 had come from, neither myself or my daughter could make sense of what he said.
I know I should have been assertive.0 -
