Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hello again

Ally Thanks I am going to activate that offer too I think.

    Determined welcome back :)

Cat it's blooming freezing down here today as well. Just back from our days outing to dance and sat with a cuppa under a blanket. Well done on doing your training outdoors anyway. I did a 10k in Richmond Park a couple of years ago in January and there was snow on the ground then. Somehow made it more exciting.

Well. As we were passing the Turkish shop again and I missed oil off my list this morning I popped in and got a bottle there and a packet of snacking salami that DS likes.

Found a 5p on the steps to the DLR.

Ate our packed lunches instead of being tempted by food out.

That's it for me now till I start doing dinner later. Nice to have some down time. DH is drawing, DS is on his beloved Mine craft & DD is in the baby ball Pitt with a selection of toys so I should get 5 mins to drink my tea in peace :)

LegoMum Ha ha hope Swumba was fun :)

    LaE horray!!!

    I'm back,

Debt Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Month Eleven:

    * Took a walk along our local shore. Got some respectable photos of a harbour seal, so OH can play with those this afternoon, and she's happy.

    * Took coffee out with us. I have calculated that if every flask-full we take out with us saves us £3 we save at least £150 per year.

    How's your day going?

  • Got a bit of bank staff work today for the council which was great-extra cash towards CC debt.
Sorted through another cupboard as part of my "pretend we're moving house" campaign. Have a large pile for the charity shop and loads of rubbish gone. Very therapeutic.
Planted out the 48 perennials we received 'just for postage' from Gardeners' World. Bargain.
Reconciled bank statement and CC statement - not too bad but determined to do better.

    Happy weekend everyone. x

Only just come across this thread, so thought I would join in.

We have been on a DMP for just over a year now and my income has decreased after getting made redundant so we need to make every penny count more than ever now.

Found the post with all the links on it, very interesting and useful, so thanks for that

    So far today...
    * I have applied for the Marriage Tax Allowance thing as I only have a casual job at the moment and not earning anywhere near my tax threshold, so that should give OH an extra £4 a week (yes he still gets paid weekly.....LOL)
    * Just about to list some stuff on FB selling pages, while OH is upstairs sorting out an old computer to list the parts on Ebay.
    * Making pizza for tea with some £1 pizza bases from Sainsburys and some cheap bacon that was on offer in Lidl, plus a few left overs from the fridge.
    * Done a couple of surveys
    * Bought some cookies from Co-op with a £2 voucher that I randomly got out the till last week just for scanning my members card! :T

So a good weekend so far. Hope everybody else is enjoying theirs.:o

Apologies for getting the month wrong in the title for today's thread :o Sorry for any confusion -I think it must have been a combination of a very early wake up and the very cold weather :D

Up early, already had my breakfast, so thought I would start the thread. I had a ridiculous dream, woke up at around 4am and couldn't get back to sleep  And it is raining again :(

Oh well, let's make the most of the weekend anyway!
    Today I will:
Try to prevent OH from putting the heating on - looking at the weather, we will probably light the wood stove later anyway! OH is out but GD has an electric heater on in the spare room
HM meals from what we have in :)As planned :)
Dog walks, rain permitting - he has a new hairstyle, having spent yesterday morning at the dog parlour, and he won't want that to get wet, will he? :rotfl: Done - not sure if he enjoys going to the poodle parlour Bob, though he does like the lady who does it. And it costs the same as a haircut for me! The trouble is he is very long haired and gets very knotty and messy if I don't get him done every 6 weeks or so
Need to take GD1 to the next town to get her some shoes (I don't see this one very often, so will take the opportunity to spoil her, within budget of course :D) Done, and I was amazed to discover that Clarks kids' school shoes are now cheaper than her Dad's were, despite wages being so much higher now than back then (DS is 42 ) - I used to have to save up the child benefit for months to get my 3 new shoes back in the day!
Look for my National Trust membership card, which seems to have gone missing Found it, knew it was around somewhere. Now back in its proper place :)
Check I have what I need foodwise for tomorrow, when DS, DD2, SiL and baby GD are threatening to be around for various meals :)Done, I gather I have 4 extras for breakfast tomorrow, and 5 for lunch. Feels a bit like Bob's cafe here
Any surveys that are available, and check FPL No surveys today
Deal with a bit of business paperwork and a couple of personal bits too. Still to do

I am sure there will be more, so will check back later to update. Hope everyone has a good day :)

Received a pack of vouchers for Sainsburys, which was a welcome bonus. I will definitely use some of those!
Bought some new bath mats (nice grey ones) in Wilkos as I am fed up with the discoloured cream ones I currently use. Those will do for baby GD to play on in the garden, before finding their way into the bin, as they are not good enough for the CS!
Ordered a compost caddy from ebay, as I am fed up with juggling with bowls and the lids of the composters, in the rain (now there is a vision for you :rotfl:).
Both of these were planned spends, and not exactly extravagant purchases :D

    Hello Ploppy57
We like to have new people join us here :)

If you see naan breads, but not pizza bases, on offer or yellow stickered, they make fab pizzas too! See Nigella Lawson's naan bread pizza at https://www.nigella.com/recipes/naan-pizza - she mentions some posh ingredients, being Nigella, but I use whatever is in the bottom of the fridge (and I bet she does too sometimes :D). Having said that, mushroom antipasti are often to be found cheap on the shelves of Aldi or Lidl if you want to try the actual recipe. For cheese she suggests taleggio I think - but mousetrap, or indeed any sort that melts, is fine :) And late back after a hectic day, you get something yummy to eat on the table quicker than you could heat a ready meal or phone for a takeaway - love Nigella :D

    Greetings Frugal Friends,
Absolutely freezing here today! Snow overnight either side of us, but our town missed it. We've made up for it in crazy hailstorms though! It's not been an entirely money saving day, but there have still been good efforts:
*mr f had to work in our local town today, so as his parking was paid for by work, I decided to have a lift in & get 'free' morning in town, instead of the £4.50 parking fee it would normally have cost me.
    *Posted knitting order to friend.
*Met another friend for coffee & collected payment for some of my knitted cats.
*Bought 2 caulis & a HUGE piece of root ginger on local market for very little money compared with supermarket prices for the same items.
    *Bought a Christmas present (£1.50)
*Treated myself to a pretty notebook for doing my daily food journal (£1.00)
    *Free coffees in Waitrose
*Waitrose had run out of their free weekend paper which I really like for recipes, occasional vouchers/offers & prize crossword. mr f spotted one sandwiched in between 2 sheets of their perspex display stand & piggled it out for me.
*Heating still off, despite this little cold snap. Have put a warm jumper on & will put lounge fire on tonight. That will be fine.
*Knit......I need to fulfil another order.
*Did a very few Toluna quick clicks......I don't find there are many surveys over the weekend, mostly already full & it's frustrating to keep getting kicked out. Only need around another 2000 points for my next Sainsbury's gift card.
*OK, well, I'm quite open about the fact that what got me here was my frivolous spending, so today I've spent 4 hours in town & here's what I DIDN'T buy:
    1. A black Laura Ashley top in a charity shop. Nice. Right size, but I have 3 black tops already.
    2. A cake when I met me friend for coffee. Made do with the little free biccy instead.
    3. A long black floaty cardi £20 in the sale - Yeah, liked it, but I bought a similar thing last year & haven't worn it as much as I thought I would.
    4. A nice glossy magazine - Sill haven't finished the one I bought last week, plus still have 4 to read that my Mum gave me.
    5. A large glass vase from Waitrose - £20 in the sale. Carried it around for 5 mins, but it didn't make it as far as the till because I decided I'd rather 'treasure-hunt' for a vintage 1930s one in the charity shops. Put it back on shelf. Go me!
    6. Rug on local market. Now that was a difficult one. Stall holder had obviously got hold of a small amount of really good quality 100% wool rugs & was selling them at £100 each. They really were worth more than that & the rug I was thinking of buying is nearer £300 (which is why I haven't bought it!) This one today was a really dramatic pattern, with lots of colours in it, but one of them was red, & this would clash with my colour scheme. Almost succumbed & bought it, but my Spendy Decades were full of incidents where I bought items which 'weren't quite right', which meant that I'd go back & buy what I actually DID want a few months later. Although I turned back TWICE, I walked away.
    7. A stack of 5 pretty 1960s saucers without cups in a charity shop. Thought they'd make lovely cat dishes.....and they would, but cat already has 6 dishes, so is there any reason why he'd need 11? Put them back.
8.Lunch. We were only 1.5 miles away from home & our very full fridge.
But......& here's the thing.....I really enjoy just looking around the shops now as much as I used to enjoy buying loads of stuff. I just no longer have to buy things to make me feel my shopping trip has been a success.
Well, the sun is shining outside our front window.......& it's as black as coal outside the back.....think we may be due a bit more hail!
Have a nice Saturday night, all.
