You have absolutely no idea about these people except via the filter of your daughters opinions, so imo yes, it is wrong.

And as for the job centre making people depressed, dear god of course it does. Have you had a look out there? It's what It's there for these days! It's certainly not for giving any real help to get work thats for sure. :D

But then If the government get their way and job centres are phased out your daughter may one day unfortunately find herself on the other end of said sanctions.

Yes only once side of the story but surely if you were living in a foreign land and were getting a chance to learn the language for free then surely you would jump at it.

How much is the interpreter costing each week ? If you personally are quite happy to go and pay for the interpreter and there JSA and housing and prescriptions etc then fair enough otherwise they need to make some sort of an effort. Its not like you are asking them to dance naked down the high street.
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j

Thanks for your reply. Yes, we do each receive a couple of benefits. But if I was living alone, how would I cope on 22p a day? "Luckily" I still live with my mum, and that doesn't apply to me.

You said that the person's money is stopped, till they attend their next appointment. I have had 2 appointments since, and attended both. I was just in shock when I checked my bank last night when instead of my usual £204 benefit, I was paid £3.10.

I know that JSA claimants will have their money stopped, if they are not actively looking for work. I never knew they take away ESA claimants benefit, by accidentally missing an appointment.

The money is stopped from the day you missed the appointment until the day you next attend which was two weeks so you lose two weeks money.

You get DLA which is 20 quid a week so you would have 45 for two weeks which is doable. Also you have the carers allowance not sure how much of that you get.

OP I'd encourage you to appeal the sanction, you have nothing to lose.

I'd also ask why £201 was taken when you were told it would be £100.

Lastly I'd use this as a learning experience for your emergency planning. A second alarm clock, few tins in the cupboard, start putting £1 or small change here &there into a money bag as an emergency fund.

OP has stated low rate DLA so no carers. Has to be mid or high rate to qualify as I understand it.

Also stated it was Triage who offered the next appointment 2 weeks later so why should OP lose out more because they didn't get given an appointment sooner.

OP I would point this out if you appeal.

My experience of the Jobcentre is that it is some of the claimants that make it such a horrible place to visit, not the staff - those with a sense of entitlement, those that shout about their human rights when they probably couldn't even spell the words.

The fact that JCP's require security guards speaks volumes - no one should resort to abuse or violence, no matter what their issue.

OP states elsewhere that he claims Carers, though how he manages to do this when he can't manage to get himself up is beyond me.

Are you suggesting Triage should reschedule other appointments to facilitate those that can't get themselves there on time? Why should others put themselves out, he has already wasted the time of the advisor by failing to show or cancel their appointment.

Maybe it's because some people are so pushed so close to the edge by this government they don't know any other way of expressing their frustration and anger.

That and there's nothing like a few security guards to help intimidate a claimant and make the experience of being there so horrible that they will do anything to sign off.

she doesn't identify them by name sort in any other way that would make them identifiable.

Well, it's not just about individuals - it's about revealing processes and discussing culture.

You are not really reflecting your daughter and her team in a good light.

If you signed up with an employment agency, agreed to a shift at 10am the following morning, overslept and didn't turn up, would you expect them to pay you?

Have you any idea how violent members of the public can be? Security guards are there for a reason - to protect staff and innocent bystanders... they are NOT just there to intimidate claimants.
