Even though I always tick the box for instant email notification I never receive any such notifications. Is there a fix?

To check, you're talking about email notification of forum subscriptions eg boards or threads?
This may sound like a silly question, but have you ticked in your settings to receive emails notification of private messages?
Is your email address still up-to-date?
Also, are you on the old green or the new blue forum?
